“It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house” (Proverbs 21:9).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house” (Proverbs 21:9), written by King Solomon.

HOW MUCH IS YOUR WIFE WORTH?

“Who can find a virtuous woman ? for her price is far above rubies” [Proverbs 31:10] written by King Lemuel.

The first twenty-nine chapters of Proverbs were written by Solomon, whose married life was anything but happy. Chapter 30 of Proverbs was written by Agur; and the last chapter (31), by King Lemuel.

King Lemuel was happily married. But Solomon! What a sour dill pickle he was about women! Twice he sobs, “It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house” (Proverbs 21:9; 25:24).

In Proverbs 19:13 he complains of the monotony of married life— “the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping”—on “a very rainy day” (Proverbs 27:15). Imagine a man with one thousand wives complaining of the MONOTONY of married life!

Hear this much-married, unhappy king complain:

“1 find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets . . . One man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found” [Ecclesiastes 7:26, 28].

Poor Solomon got what he asked for.

How different happy King Lemuel, who says of his wife— “her price is far above rubies.”

Are you happily married? Then thank God! If you are unhappily married, who is to blame? You made the choice. If you want to appreciate your wife and find out what she is worth, try keeping house just ONE DAY WITHOUT HER! One fellow wrote the account of one such day as follows:

Opened the door for kids 106 times; shouted “stop that noise” 172 times; settled 17 quarrels; wiped 19 noses; answered 145 questions; lost my temper 57 times; tied shoelaces 16 times; changed diapers 16 times; felt like spanking them ? times, etc., etc., etc. Was I happy to SEE HER back!

How much is your wife worth? Is she worth a hug and a kiss? Well, what are you waiting for?

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
