“The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly” (Proverbs 20:30).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly” (Proverbs 20:30).

In a Florida town two parents have gone on strike. Dirty dishes, laundry and garbage had piled up in the home because their teen children refused to do their chores. The parents moved out of their house and set up a tent in the front driveway. Fed up with their children, they've gone on strike. They refuse to cook, clean or drive their children. Reporters from Orlando and Daytona are on hand to picture it all in the papers. Thus the parents deprive and punish themselves instead of reading the Book of Proverbs to learn how to discipline and rear their offspring.

Some modern parents are mortally afraid of their own children. How I would like to take them to some of the good churches I've been in where children behave and sit with their parents or near the front with a group of well-mannered and happy teens.

The Gospel and the Bible make the difference—better than being “as the heathen.”

So today’s verse has a special application, sepecially in dealing with children, “the blueness of the wound cleanseth away evil,” it doesn’t hurt to bruise them. They have gotten so crazy in America over the battered children. If you do punish your child and you bruise him, some idiot will turn you in for child abuse. And this crazy country will take the kids away and put them in a foster home where they stand an even greater chance of being sexually abused and worse.

The Bible still teaches that “the blueness of the wound cleanseth away evil,” and “so do stripes the inward parts of the belly,” evil comes from the evil within and administered pain upon the outward will help the inward.

That’s just all there is to it.

“Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge” (Proverbs 19:25).

“Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him” (Proverbs 22:15).

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
