“The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit” (Proverbs 18:11).
“The rich man's wealth is his strong city,” the idea here is that it is easy to trust in your wealth. It is easy to hide behind that wall, as though it has the power to protect you. It is one thing to say you know you are living by faith, and it's another thing to have $100,000 in the bank and say you're living by faith and you're trusting God. Most of us have been in the positions more than once of being down to our last dime, and if one more thing happens it is going to be bad. There is a difference between having a bunch of money set aside and trusting in God and being down to the very last straw. The one thing that the rich always clings to or even the relatively well-off always trust is the fact that they have that financial cushion. Right? I mean they always have that thing on the side that they can always lean on in case God fails them. Sadly, many a rich man has decided that he must be saved and right with God because of all the money he believes that God has blessed him with. Money can be a false salvation.
The problem is that “the rich man's wealth is his strong city.” It's easier for him to go within the walls of that city and at least pretend that he's safe. Now, I think a lot of that is an illusion. Right? The Bible warns about that over and over.
You know what. I hope you all come into a lot of money. I really do. If everybody here were to suddenly inherit $1,000,000 it would be a good thing and I wouldn't tell you to go throw the money away or anything; but I tell you what you would have to watch out for. You would have to fight the temptation to trust in that money. You cannot trust that money.
“Trust not in oppression [and hopefully you wouldn't], and become not vain in robbery [hopefully you wouldn't to participate in that]: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them” (Psalms 62:10).

Thank you Pilgrim for posting Gods word! I pray he see’s my heart and protects me by keeping me from seeking my own counsel. Without his hand we would all be lost as we were b efore Jesus .
God is good, isn’t he! His love is so much better than I deserve, and I don’t even want to think about where I would be right now if I got what I did deserve! God bless . . .
