Sorry jim bug, humbug.
I gather this article assumes there were other unreported generations as well as those listed in Genesis.
However, if you just take Genesis as a literal account, did you know that Methusaleh, the oldest patriarch at his death, actually died in the year of the flood?
Here’s a chart showing all the details. This shows which patriarchs were alive at the same time (if the Genesis account is taken literally). The second number at the end of each patriarch’s life span is the year after Adam’s birth that this patriarch died. E.g., Seth died 1042 years after Adam’s birth, at an age of 912. The number above any new patriarch’s name is the age of his father when he was born.
Adam __ (+130) ______________________________ (dies +930)(930)
________ Seth _(+105) ___________________________(dies +912) (1042)
________________ Enos _ (+90) ____________________(dies +905)(1140)
_______________________ Cainan _ (+70) ___________________ (dies +910) (1235)
_______________________________Malaheel _(+65 ) ________________ (dies +895) (1290)
_________________________________________ Jared ____ (+162 ) ____________________ (dies +962) (1417)
__________________________________________________ Enoch _ (+60) __________ (into heaven +365) (982)
______________________________________________________ Methusaleh ______ (+187) __________________________ (dies +969) (1646)
________________________________________________________________ Lamech _____ (+182 ) ____________________________________________(dies +777) (1641)
_______________________________________________________________ (Noah) _________________________ (+500) __ (flood +600)1646 _____ (+950) 1996
__________________________________________________________________ (three sons) _________ (Shem lived 500 yr after flood to about 2146)

as I cannot edit this I may repost it if I think it is inaccurate in layout ... and I will comment further on it too.
_________
That came out almost fine, but a slightly better version is here:
Adam __ (+130) ______________________________ (dies +930)(930)
________ Seth _(+105) ___________________________(dies +912) (1042)
________________ Enos _ (+90) ____________________(dies +905)(1140)
_______________________ Cainan _ (+70) ___________________ (dies +910) (1235)
_______________________________Malaheel _(+65 ) ________________ (dies +895) (1290)
_________________________________________ Jared ____ (+162 ) ____________________ (dies +962) (1417)
__________________________________________________ Enoch _ (+60) __________ (into heaven +365) (982)
______________________________________________________ Methusaleh ______ (+187) __________________________ (dies +969) (1646)
________________________________________________________________ Lamech _____ (+182 ) ________________________________(dies +777) (1641)
______________________________________________________________________ (Noah) ____________________ (+500) __ (flood +600)1646 _____ (+950) 1996
__________________________________________________________________ (three sons) _________ (Shem lived 500 yr after flood to about 2146)
Interesting.
I will have to ask my pastor about this.
Smiles 🤡
I never bet to lose
Two five year errors were made in the chart, Jared died at year 1422 not 1417 as shown, Enoch begat Methusaleh at the age of 65 not 60 as shown, so while Enoch was taken up into heaven after 987 years (not 982 as shown), Methusaleh lived to 1656 (not 1646), and Lamech was born
This is a corrected version of the years after creation for birth, paternity and death of each patriarch:
Patriarch_born _fathered __________ died
ADAM ______ 0 ___ 130 ______________ 930
SETH ____ 130 ___ 235 ______________1042
ENOS ____ 235 ___ 325 ______________1140
CAINAN __ 325 ___ 395 ______________1235
MALAHEEL_ 395 ___ 460 ______________1290
JARED ___ 460 ___ 622 ______________1422
ENOCH ___ 622 ___ 687 ______________ 987*
METHUSALEH 687 ___874 ______________1656
LAMECH ___ 874 __1056 ______________1651
NOAH _____1056 __1556 _flood_1656 _ 2006 dies
SHEM _____1556 __1658 ______________2156
(note * Enoch was taken into heaven rather than dying in this year ... also Genesis says that Shem had his first born two years after the flood but at the age of one hundred. The literal text says he would be 102 at that point so my listing for his year of paternity was two years post-flood.
This changes nothing about the main arguments being made.
Due to the space limitations, one detail should be explained here, the +500 on Noah’s time line is the birth of three sons, who are then noted further over to the left rather than underneath the +500. These boarded the ark with Noah and survived the flood. Shem lived longer than Noah after the flood. The rest of the time line from Shem to Abraham begins to resemble modern paternity ages and life spans more and more until post-Abraham we reach a more “normal” set of numbers. But all of that is post-flood and of no further interest to this discussion.
What is interesting then is that all the patriarchs before Noah were alive at the same time, even Enoch who was taken up into heaven at the relatively young age of 365 (according to this timeline that was 57 years after Adam died).
In the year that Adam died (930 years after Creation) Seth was 800, Enos was 695, Cainan was 605, Malaheel was 535, Jared was 470, Enoch was 308, Methusaleh was 243, Lamech was 56. Noah was born 126 years later, by which time Adam and Seth had died.
Note also that Methusaleh outlived Lamech by five years and then died in the year of the flood. All the other patriarchs had passed away by then.
copy missed in previous “and Lamech ... died in 1651 not 1641 as shown, years after Creation.”
In one reference I consulted, it was stated that Methusaleh died “one week before the flood” but I think that must be some rabbinical text.
according to rabbinical tradition?
......
I posed that question about who Michezeldik was here on facebook. one correspondent who sounded orthodox gave the reply about rabbinical tradition.
My speculation: Adam and Eve were created by God’s own hand and were thus genetically perfect. Lots of things can kill a person that are not related to genetics, of course, but having no genetic defects would be a big help. Genetic defects started piling up after the fall, and then God brought the hammer down and limited us to 120 years, give or take.
That explanation also makes sense.
