“Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding" (Proverbs 4:1).
“Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father,” a father is supposed to give his kids instruction, amen? It's become a kind of a societal issue these days that a lot of father's are kind of withdrawn from their families. You either have no account dad's that went away or even in strong families a lot of times the dads don't actually step up and do much of the child rearing and child training.
Some of us can testify that we had a good dad. Our dads were a good dads, but as far as really sitting down and talking to us; communicating with us about things important in life and standards and precepts and principles and so on, we didn't get a lot of that. Our dads taught us to work hard and taught us to be honest. If we were not honest, they would lovingly beat the snot out of us, which is good and all that's fine but there's a lot more than that too and I just urge you not to make the same mistake most of us make. A lot of our dads are now gone it’s regretful that we were not closer to them when they were here. And now that they are gone, we need to be careful that we don't make the same mistakes.
“Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father,” now that's our heavenly Father. And it is also practical. “You children, hear the instruction of your father.” Of course, that doesn't mean to ignore your mother like some people think; but “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.”
“Attend to know understanding,” okay, there's some things that you're supposed to attend to. All the way through school they took attendance. We were supposed to attend the classes. There are some things in life that we're supposed to attend to, and you are supposed to “attend to know understanding.”
Now, If what you intend to understand is evolution you do understand that you're off on the wrong track entirely, don't you? You do understand that if you attend to know a lot of the things in this life that people are shoving, not only at our kids but also all of us, through the news media, newspapers, and all those things you understand that you'll be wasting your time. If you attend to adapt the worldview of societal issues; you know, pro-homosexuality, diversity and all those sorts of things, you understand that you're wasting your time spiritually.
You are wasting your time. As far as anything that really matters, you are wasting your time. All these things that these candidates are campaigning on these days and not only anti-God, they are a complete waste of time. There aren't many of those things that are of any particular importance. Where they land on the issue of the Middle East is unimportant, unless it is a decidedly pro-Israel position. And even then, you have to discern whether they are only making empty election promises.
You can say that the economy is important, and yeah, in in a measure as far as the health of the nation is concerned, that's very true; but those aren't the most important things. It says, “Attend to know understanding.” In context, we are to attend to know the things of God as revealed to us in God’s Book which is God’s Word.
