Belated reply: The Catholic schools I attended from grade school thru college all had excellent academic standards and did a great job of teaching the basics. The one weak area in the early grades was probably a lack of training in the arts, particularly music, but also the other so-called "fine arts."
And as I said before, I thought the religious instruction was weak. That was the 50s and early 60s, the era of Marian devotions and praying for the conversion of Russia. After Vatican II, that all began to change. There was a crisis of confidence, and many priests and nuns left. Those who remained seemed afraid that they were being left behind by the cultural revolution, and began to adapt to it.
Now, all three schools that I attended have gone woke and reflect the PC cultural ambiance of the Seattle area. Just last week, I received a letter from my old high school announcing that they were dropping the "Braves" nickname.
