A new chapel was recently consecrated at the site of a Soviet prison in Ukraine where newly-glorified New Martyrs served their sentences.

The former Elisavetgrad prison, in today’s Kropivnitsky in central Ukraine, saw the suffering of the holy New Martyrs Archpriest Platon Kupchevsky and Archpriest Nikolai Vinogradov. Today the building serves as the provincial pre-trial detention center.

The new prayer room was created by the administration and the prisoners themselves, and was consecrated by a cleric of the Kirovograd Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reports the local Holy Annunciation Church.

Hieromartyrs Platon and Nikolai were imprisoned several times in the period from 1923 to 1929, and in December 1931 and January 1932, they were sentenced to exile and sent to the Northern Territory. Their further fate is unknown.
