Daily Mass Gospel Reflection
Word on Fire Ministry ^ | 9-6-2021 | Aux. Bishop R. Barron

Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

Luke 6:6–11

Friends, in our Gospel today, Jesus heals a man with a withered hand. As I’ve said many times before, we tend to domesticate Christ, reducing him to a guru or a teacher, one spiritual guide among many. But this is to do violence to the Gospel, which presents him not simply as teacher but as savior.

I realize that the culture militates against Christianity at this point, for it steadily teaches the ideology of self-esteem and self-assertion: “I’m okay and you’re okay”; “Who are you to tell me how to behave?”

But this sort of thing—whatever value it might have politically or psychologically—is simply inimical to a biblical Christianity. The biblical view is that we have, through the abuse of our freedom, gotten ourselves into an impossible bind. Sin has wrecked us in such a fundamental way that we have become dysfunctional. Until we truly feel what it means to be lost and helpless, we will not appreciate who Jesus is and what he means.

Jesus is someone who has rescued us, saved us, done something that we could never, even in principle, do for ourselves.

TOPICS: Catholic
KEYWORDS:
+++The scribes and the Pharisees
watched him closely
to see if he would cure on the
sabbath to accuse him.
But he realized their intentions
and said to the man with the
withered hand,
“Come up and stand before us.”
And he rose and stood there.
Then Jesus said to them,
“I ask you, is it lawful to do good
on the sabbath
rather than to do evil,
to save life rather than to destroy
it?”
Looking around at them all, he then
said to him,
“Stretch out your hand.”
He did so and his hand was restored.
But they became enraged
and discussed together what they
might do to Jesus.+++

But according to the heretic, Bobby Barron, Jesus Christ is only the "privileged way" to salvation.

Why is he charging money at all? He’s a for-profit money grubbing egomaniac “bishop”. He’s not a publishing house.

Lol!
Your too late !....already got it earlier this year!

Although not the "pack"...just the first book - The Gospels.
Its pretty awesome though...its format is like the Catena... but the style is like an encyclopedia. And Christian artwork...
Took a bit to get used to at first- a Bible presented in that way.

Each chapter has companion commentary- ranging from Chysostrom, Aquinas, etc.- with added commentary also from Newman, Chesterton, Apb Sheen and many others. Its a daily read - alot of work/thought went into it...I recommend it as a gift to give someone.
Not for everyone...especially your non-Catholic FR supporters who are dead in their faith, and have to pretend Christianity began 500 years ago.

And unlike Bergoglio, Barron and you who believe Catholicism began with VC II.

It’s pathetic that you think the crisis in the Church is something to joke about.

DO NOT - mistake my - fearless trust, confidence and Joy in the Lord as "joking" - that puts the Lord in a secondary position...aint gonna do that-
it is the sinful man who must find comfort- UNSPEAKABLE comfort in coming to Love Jesus and what he has done for us... Fear NOT ? FEAR NOTHING !
Pope Francis? Yes I respect his Chair, his office... but he can not harm me- I have no fear... he like us will die away... ashes to ashes...

Admittedly I don't share in the woes of men when i look ar... I wish people weren't so self-centered- but more God-fearing centered- but I can't control that...nor will I howl at the moon because of it.... because I know God is great and I am only IN this world, and NOT OF THIS WORLD....
Besides- Like you are able to solve the centuries old problems of sin in the Church? C'mon- thats not what your here for- sure fight for the Church- Proclaim the Truth- The Gospel- the Sacramental life- but not to the point where your faith in God is replaced by some idea human effort is gonna solve human failure... its silliness...

Please--you're only kidding yourself...
Christ does not want your angst... your hand wringing.. the "woe to us"... end times are here!!
No - Christ wants us to TRUST in HIM- COMPLETELY- Trust in the HOLY SPIRIT and Love God with all our hearts... AND DO HIS WILL while we are here...

Not some distracting geo-political clown show that failed, flawed humans subject us to--- that humnan frailty has always been with us..

Christ has RISEN- he is not any different today- when he was 500 years ago, 2000 years ago- OR EVEN SINCE VAT2 !!!... AND.HE.SHALL.PREVAIL.

That's where we differ, Murph. You seem to care about only your own soul, not the souls of others (ignorant catholics, adulterers, homosexuals, pro-abort politicians, jews, muslims, etc.) who are being misled by the heretics like Bergoglio and Barron.

I, on the other hand care, about their souls and when I critique the above heretics for misleading those poor souls, you falsely accuse me of attacking the Catholic Church.

Well, as St. Paul encourages - and what I tell my non-Catholic brethren...
