“For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life" (Proverbs 6:23).
Are you able to obey without asking questions? Now, it’s not that we should be against all questions. If I yell for my grandkids to get out of the road, I mean for them to get out of the road now. The little guys think that Mack trucks are cute. Well, they’re not. Now, every question isn’t wrong. Sometimes children ask them, and they aren’t challenging my authority; they just wanted to know why? Now, there's a right way to ask why, and a wrong way. When your dad says, “Go empty the trash,” “Why?” is not the right question.
We’ve all had our kids ask us, “Dad, why do we do this a certain way?” so, I'm awarding you that. I'm granting you that; but, can you obey without asking questions or debating or back talking? Do you recognize that there's a time to do what you're told, and be quiet about it?
We’ve all watched parents in Walmart and in other places and have seen folks that should know better, let their kids run amok; and that’s not how those kids should behave, okay? What they are raising there are kids that are going to cause society some problems down the road. I feel like an old codger here, “Let me tell you how it was in my day! It wasn’t so easy with my father!”
Well, there were some things that dad would not put up with, and buddy when he said to do something and it didn’t get done to his liking, he could go incredible Hulk in an instant. Two things that we absolutely did not do in our house was talk back to mother, and ask, “Why?” with a snarky tone. Those were just the wrong thing to do. Are you teaching your kids that self is not their first concern?
