I spent a semester at a Catholic seminary back in the late ‘80s. When Fr. Lawler announced that there would a Latin Novus Ordo every Thursday, one older seminary loudly complained in the refectory “I spent 10 years learning Latin and 20 years forgetting it!”

I don’t identify with that mindset, as I rarely buy into a zeitgeist, but I think I understand it.
