Prayer of St. Michael update: ‘Fr. Emanuel wishes to state that he misspoke…’
This report and video caused a stir on social media over the last 24 hours.
On Saturday the pastor of the church, Fr. John Trout, issued a statement:
Dear Parishioners,
The faithful are always welcome to gather in Church for personal prayer as individual or as a group. At the same time, in accord with sound liturgical practice and in keeping with archdiocesan norms, which I personally confirmed with the Cardinal, the recitation of prayers must never interfere with, interrupt or distract from the public liturgy of the Church. Nor can it ever become an imposition on the rest of the faithful in the Church who have a right to remain at the end of Mass to pray privately as they wish. It is also important that such prayers must always foster the unity of the Church, which is guaranteed by the Successor of Peter, for whom we never fail to show our deepest respect and devoted support as our Holy Father.
Fr. Emanuel, the associate pastor, wishes to state that he misspoke at a recent Mass when he falsely attributed statements to Cardinal Cupich. For this reason the video of that Mass has been removed to avoid any confusion.
With gratitude,
Fr. John Trout, Pastor

If we bishops are going to help the dem party turn Catholics into baby killing Nazis,we must destroy any chance they can become better humans through prayer...

The Hail Mary or Memorare before and
the St Michael prayer after Mass
were led by the celebrant at
St. Patrick’s in St Charles IL
for at least the last three weeks (that I know of personally) and
probably much longer before we started attending there...
This morning?
Neither were led by the celebrant.
I said the St Michael prayer out loud myself after Mass
so it IS either coming from Maloy or Cupich formally or informally.
God has an amazing sence of irony
which was not lost on me in today’s Gospel as
we embark on a new round of fakedemic mask mandates.
Just ask, in what prior pandemic did the world population actually increase?
Do not comply, Resist & Refuse

Our celebrant always leads us in the prayer to St. Michael, but we aren't under Cardinal Cupich's jurisdiction.
In light of today's Gospel, I wonder if it matters if we have washed our hands before saying the prayer to St. Michael.

Hey Jesus
I noticed your Apostles aren’t wearing masks or
getting vaxxed or social distancing...

I asked why does Fr. Emanuel believe Cdl. Cupich said this. You said because Fr. Trout says Cdl. Cupich said this, but link to Fr. Trout saying Fr. Emanuel misspoke. I’m guessing the real problem is that Fr. Emanuel’s description of what Cdl. Cupich lacked some nuance?
“We want to remind everyone that the prayer of St. Michael is not to said publicly following mass.”
“The recitation of prayers must never interfere with, interrupt or distract from the public liturgy of the Church. Nor can it ever be an imposition on the rest of the faithful in the Church who have a right to remain to pray privately as they wish.”
Sounds like Fr. Emanuel interprets that saying the prayer of leading the congregation in the prayer of St. Michael meets what Cdl. Cupich calls “an imposition on the rest of the faithful” but that someone (Cdl. Cupich? Fr. Trout?) objected to him leading to the impression that various members of the congregation can’t publicly pray together if doing so doesn’t interfere with any other private prayer.
None of this is stated, however.

“We want to remind everyone that the prayer of St. Michael is not to said publicly following mass.”What's next? The prohibition of publicly praying the Holy Rosary or the Angelus in Cupich's churches?
