PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 8/27/2021

“As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place” (Proverbs 27:8).

KEYWORDS:
“As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place” (Proverbs 27:8).

I find it weird when a family is not interested in being together, and increasingly that is the case. I remember the “old days” where people lived on a farm and stuff, and after a day’s work by 7:00 or 8:00 o'clock they had supper at home and stayed home and went to bed. The families were so much stronger back then. They could be strong again.

My memories of our family were that of mom and dad and four kids around the table eating supper and then sitting around in the living room and talking or doing whatever else. My point is increasingly that is less and less the case in families today. Increasingly there seems to be less and less of a bond. There seems to be less and less of an attraction—kids to moms and dads, and moms and dads to each other, and folks tend to just come home, microwave something, and leave again and nobody's ever home at the same time now. It isn’t a sin to come home, eat supper, and leave again; but it does seem to speak of something going on that is not terribly healthy. Right?

It says there in our passage, “As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.”

I believe in the word of God that that place would be home. Now, you can make it spiritual too. I am called to do certain things for the Lord. I am an ambassador for Christ, as are you. I am a witness for Christ as are you. I am a son of God. I am a servant, as are you, okay? If I wander from that place and go chase some other thing that has nothing to do with what God has called me to do, I have wandered from my place and it is not normal. It is not normal for a mama bird to leave her babies in a nest and go fly away and never come back. It is just strange. It is also strange for moms to abort their baby and leave the kid in a dumpster. Right? There is some wild stuff going on today, folks, and I am just telling you that even spiritually you are still called to abide in your place.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
