On July 13, 2021, the Museum of Russian icons Mikhail Abramov held a ceremony of donating an 18th-century icon of Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky to the crew of the nuclear submarine Alexander Nevsky.
The transfer of the image from the collection of philanthropist Mikhail Abramov, who tragically died in August 2019, was timed to the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the birth of the prince, which is celebrated this year, according to the museum's press service.
The icon "Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky" was painted in the late 18th century in Russia in a mixed technique.

St. Alexander Nevsky on it is represented sitting at a small, covered with a green cloth table. In his raised right hand he holds a hilt of a naked sword, with his left hand he supports a scroll opened on the table, pointing at its text.
The blessed prince is clad in a wrought metal armor that is richly ornamented and bears a human face at the throat. An ermine cloak covered with red brocade is thrown over them.
The prince wears a red crown surmounted with a martyr's cross and trimmed with ermine fur; precious stones are set in the golden castes of the body. A sword with a gilt hilt is naked and raised with the point upwards. The inscription with the name reads: "Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevskiy".

Very nice!
How did Mikhail Abranov tragically die?
I know we aint pals but i dont see the Russians as enemies at the present. The Chicoms are another matter.
Foggy Bottom wants Russia to be our enemy forever. Job security.
I hope it’s not intended to bring the submarine good luck.
If so, it seems it didn’t work so well for Mr. Abramov.
Totally agree. I know lots of Rooskies. Theyre different but a lot like us. They want to live and be safe like us and not be effed with. How our govs behave is where the problem is.
Or as Sting put it, “The Russians love their children too.”
The founder of the Museum of Russian Icon, businessman and philanthropist Mikhail Abramov, died as a result of a helicopter crash in Greece. This was told by his colleague and former museum employee Sergei Bryun.
