Pope Francis warned against misuse of the liturgy that places an emphasis on ideology in a video message sent Friday to a Latin American conference on religious life.
“Let us not forget that a faith that is not inculturated is not authentic. For this reason, I invite you to participate in the process that will provide the true sense of a culture that exists in the soul of the people,” Pope Francis said in the video sent on Aug. 13.
“When this inculturation does not take place, Christian life, and even more so the consecrated life, ends up with the oddest and most ridiculous Gnostic tendencies. We’ve seen this, for example, in the misuse of the liturgy [where] what is important is ideology rather than the reality of the people. This is not the Gospel.”
The pope’s video message was featured at a virtual conference organized by the Confederation of Latin American and Caribbean Religious (CLAR).
The conference focused on inculturation, a concept which John Paul II described as the process by which "the Church makes the Gospel incarnate in different cultures and at the same time introduces peoples, together with their cultures, into her own community."
Pope Francis said that many men and women in religious life can be tempted to focus on the decline in numbers of vocations in their orders. He urged them to “renounce the criterion of numbers.”

Marxism is the work of the Devil....
“...warned against misuse of the liturgy that places an emphasis on ideology...” And yet, here we have a Pope who practices such, go figure.
I have been attending a Byzantine Catholic church, which uses the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. They use Ruthenian and Byzantine chant. There is a wonderful young priest who has obviously immersed himself in the ancient faith, which he makes available to the people in practical and intelligent sermons. I always learn something new. Liturgy is the most authentic thing I do all week, and yet it is in sharp contrast to anything in the culture. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
The ImPopester is one of his minions.
Engaging the secular culture and embracing the secular culture are two different things. Christianity is by its nature counter cultural.
Right now the Novus Ordo and all its vagaries are more subject to “nostalgia” because it is tied to a long past time ... like Woodstock.
The churches today think people want entertainment and motivation speeches and if they provide it the church will grow. What the people need is contemplation and reflection. Honesty, humility, and repentance are in short supply.
This pope clearly doesn’t believe in heaven and tnoe Communion of saints who are present in the liturgical life.
His declaration about faith is that of one who understands nothing subversions of everything.
I think he's basically got it backwards. Authentic faith informs and creates culture. Culture which developed outside the Faith can have elements useful in the development of an authentic Christian culture, but they shouldn't be viewed as more than that.
Maybe that explains his hatred for the TLM, which basically creates it's own culture.
