PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 8/14/2021
King James Bible | 8/14/2021 | pilgrimsprogress

“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly” (Proverbs 14:29).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly” (Proverbs 14:29).

I rise to my high privilege as a Royal Child and determine that I shall always carry above me the atmosphere of gentleness and kindness. I positively refuse to submit to the CRUEL SLAVERY OF A BAD TEMPER. I will not stoop to the brutal, insane demands of anger. Its poison shall never be secreted in my body. Its pollution shall never corrupt my heart. Its sting shall never wound the heart of friend or acquaintance. I refuse to give any place whatsoever to its poisonous cruelty.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3, 4).

I am determined to be quiet even under fire. If falsely accused, I shall remain silent for the Father’s vindication. If imposed upon, my soul shall stay at peace, knowing my Father will take complete care of all my interests.

“He that is slow to wrath,” speaking of the control of the man’s spirit, “is of great understanding,” he understands that to blow up doesn’t provide any solutions, it doesn’t provide anything—there is no profit in it. They have adult “temper-tantrums”, but it only makes a fool out of the one having it.

“. . . but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly,” did you ever just blow up at somebody? Then you find out after the fact that they had done nothing wrong and were not a fault? You feel pretty silly, huh? It’s even worse when you stop and think about it a while and find out it was you that was at fault.

“. . . he that is hasty of spirit,” try the spirits! In America, we have a TV mentality. We expect every problem to be solved within 30 minutes. We want everything to happen right away. We are hasty about things. We are in a hurry. We have instant breakfast, instant lunch, instant success, even fast food! Life just isn’t like that. It takes time to build a life. To build a person, to build a character, to build a Christian.

Some people think that getting saved is an end to all their problems. Friend, many problems are just beginning! They think that by trusting Christ all of the sudden they have arrived spiritually. It might take 5-10 years to get all the kinks out of you.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

5-10 years?

It’s been 40+ and I’m still working on it.

Great summation! The battle within our own minds is the one that satan focuses on to break down the individual and his / her relationship by measuring success to worldly standards. I realize that Gods wisdom is beyond my comprehension and I instead try to focus on my thoughts and actions so that it may be pleasing to God as I a sinner seek his grace and love. Thank you as always Pilgrim for posting , I think of you everyday.
