Traditionis custodes is not only about regulating the Roman Mass but wants it to disappear, Cardinal Joseph Zen said in an online discussion (here and below, August 9).
However, Zen doubts that Francis is “fully aware” of this, and blames “the [famous] people around him.” He believes that the initiative for TC came from the "Roman Curia," especially Cardinal Parolin. Zen would like to ask Francis what he thinks about this “big attack” on the Mass.
Bishop Schneider replied to Zen in the same conference that this is a document of Francis and it is published with his signature with a personal accompanying letter, "We have to accept that it is a document of the Pope.”
For Schneider it is not helpful to speculate about Francis' alleged advisers. Instead, Schneider expresses concern about the content of TC. He believes that TC’s categorical rejection of the Roman Rite is a rejection of Tradition itself, stressing that Francis welcomes a "diversity of religions" although there is only one religion - the Church - willed by God, while at the same time he rejects a liturgical diversity within the Church.
"Already inside the New Mass there is a diversity of manners of celebrations," Schneider said, while the New York historian John Rao added that there is not one New Mass Rite “but 1000 rites, a million different kinds of NO Rites, a different rite in every church.”

I’m a huge fan of Card. Zen, and I truly believe that he’s one of the good guys, but his comment is of the “if only Stalin knew” variety. For 8 years, there’s been a running narrative among some center-right Catholics that no pope could possibly be this bad (on faith, morals, China, etc.), so it must be the case that Parolin and others around him have pulled the wool over the man’s eyes and are conning him into signing off on stuff. It’s naive, but it’s somewhat understandable that some faithful Catholics bend over backwards to give the pope every benefit of the doubt. At this point, though, after 8 years of this, it should be obvious to one and all that, despite the fact that Parolin et al. are undoubtedly bad too, the ultimate ring leader is Bergoglio himself.
Bergoglio sees himself as an oracle who can jettison 2,000 years of Catholic teaching and 5,000 years of Mosaic law... with some vague assertion that Jesus and/or the Holy Spirit and/or the “God of Surprises” gave him the green light.

To plainly see Bergoglio’s communist intentions to “transform the world,” which are calculated and deliberate, the short Modesto Memo is revealing. Pope gave personal blessing and approval of this document by Cardinal Turkson’s group.
It’s anti-Trump, pro-socialist, and denounces private property. The pope wants the entire Church to be CCHD. It contains the now-infamous phrase, “Racism and White Supremacy are America’s original sins.”
