PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 8/8/2021
King James Bible | 8/8/2021 | pilgrimsprogress

“Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors” (Proverbs 8:32-34).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors” (Proverbs 8:32-34).

Verse 32, “Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways,” what this is saying is that you do it the Lord’s way, and you may not reap the benefits today. You can't treat this like a Coke dispenser where you put in your $0.75 or a dollar or whatever it is and punch a button and get your Coke or Diet Coke or Pepsi out within 5 seconds. It doesn't work that way. But in time, if you do the right thing, it will visit you again.

Verse 33, “Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not,” it’s a dangerous ground do not hear instruction, and if you do hear it, to refuse it; and that's what happens a lot.

“Verse 34, “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.” We are supposed to stand and wait before the Lord in prayer and for answers and so on, but in the process of that you're sitting at the fount of all wisdom and understanding, and waiting at her doors and at the posts of her doors waiting for her to come out and give you something.

“Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not,” so, be willing. Notice the outline here.

1. Be willing. “And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not” (II Corinthians 8:10-12 KJV).

“Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates,”

2. Be watching. Where are the gates of wisdom? Every morning that you open the Bible and study, you open up the door of wisdom. Don’t keep the gates closed. Walk into wisdom. Open that Book!

“waiting at the posts of my doors.”

3. Be waiting. Open the Bible daily and wait on God for a blessing.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
