PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 8/7/2021
King James Bible | 8/7/2021 | pilgrimsprogress

“Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows" (Proverbs 7:12-14).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows" (Proverbs 7:12-14).

The Lord is prophesying and complaining of how Israel has treated Him. She was his wife and He basically turned her over to her lusts and let her live like she wanted to live. You'll notice the context here in verse 5: “For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink" (Hosea 2:5).

So, she's out chasing material things. Picking up at verse 6: “Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths. And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband [GOD]; for then was it better with me than now" (Hosea 2:6-7).

So, when it becomes expedient . . . if you're not careful . . . you'll go back to God. After chasing everything else, and since that didn't work out, you’ll revert to Plan B which is God.

“For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal" (Hosea 2:8).

All the time she was living like the devil, he was given her the stuff that she was sacrificing to the devil. So, what’s the point? They will use holy things to strengthen themselves to sin.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

Beyond our comprehension that God our Father sacrificed Jesus our saviour for what he knew would occur. I too can apply this proverb to some of my actions in life. Just think , this happens over and over and over again yet God is always extending himself for us with his love and peace. I am so humbled and grateful . Thank you as always Pilgrim for posting Gods word.

Amen. 70X7 is not really 490 times, or else I would have exhausted my quota years ago . . . it is a number of absolute completeness and perfection. It is 4,900 times, and then when that is used up - it is 49,000 times. Over a lifetime, there is no end of God’s grace to the repentant soul - for His grace is sufficient to all our need!

Amen!
