“Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her" (Proverbs 4:8).
There is a kind of church that some people call a church of bibliolaters. Because those weirdos exalt the Bible too highly. Folks say, “Well, Jesus ought to be our rally point,” and all that kind of thing and they never quite come to grips with the fact that if you don't have a Bible that's right then you also don't have a Jesus that's right either. You have never seen Him unless you have a Bible that presents him the way he really is, right?
Did you know that the Bible itself tells us praise our Bible? You know, the Book that, according to Psalm 138:2 tells us is placed even above the very name of God Himself. Look at this verse: "“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name” (Psalms 138:2). You see, if the Bible has errors in it (as the fundamentalist Bible professors are teaching their students) then God is a liar. If God is a liar, we should rightly reject Him. We are told, however, "Let God be true, but every man a liar (including me)" (Romans 3:4).
Praise our Bible? Here is the passage: "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God. Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word” (Psalms 56:3-10).
Not only once, or twice . . . BUT THREE TIMES . . . we are told to "praise his word!"
So, if you wish to call me a "bibliolater" . . . GO AHEAD. It doesn't bother this Christian in the least.
Here is an important verse to mark in your Bible in case you've never seen it before, because it shows you what you ought to be doing with the word of God. It shows you that you're not going to go over the edge. It is possible to go over the edge with the Bible. There are some folks that have. They say, for instance, that if you don't get saved out of the King James Bible, then you are a miscarried Christian. Your spiritual birth was a miscarriage. Now, that's going too far. I was saved off of a Chick track. There are people that were saved out of the living Bible. The word of God is powerful enough that even when it is corrupted, there's enough truth in it to save somebody. People have even been saved out of a Jehovah’s Witness New World translation. So, it is possible to go too far with things. I would never say that a man couldn't get saved out of an RSV, because they can. Mark this verse:
“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you" (2 Thessalonians 3:1).
“. . . that the word of God may be glorified,” what that sounds like is that a bunch of people are lifting up the Bible and exalting the Bible and magnifying the Bible and celebrating the Bible. Those would be the kind of people the world calls, “bibliolaters,” amen? Is it okay if we do that in our churches today?
If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
