“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men” (Proverbs 23:26-28).
This is God speaking to every single human creature on earth. It is proper to say, “my son,” in the sense that He is the Creator of all men on the planet. “My son, give me thine heart,” Dr. Bob Jones Sr. said that if God has got your heart, then He’ll straighten out your head. Too many people are thinking that they need to straighten out their head first, and then they’ll come to God. Well, that’s not going to happen. You are never going to straighten out your own life. Give God your heart, and then He will straighten out all the kinks in your head.
You have to start with the heart. That is where everything starts from: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways” We will never get on the right thing until our heart gets on the right thing. You and I will never look at the right things, and observe the right things, until our heart is with the Lord.
Why? Temptations.

The Bible is plain, isn’t it? If you don’t follow after righteousness, you end up in a ditch. Jesus Christ said so: “They be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch” (Matthew 15:14).
Do you know what the biggest whore in the Bible is? It is Babylon. A billion people are in that ditch tonight. I wonder how many people are in hell tonight because of that whore. Do you know what they didn’t do? They didn’t give God their heart, and they didn’t let their eyes observe God’s ways. They observe men’s ways, and not God’s way. Their ways seemeth to them to be right, but the ends thereof are the ways of death.
“For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.” She is the personification of sin (Revelation 17). She is a narrow pit—it’s hard to get out of it once you fall into it. It is the attraction and the allurement of sin that leads to hell. The whole world is walking down that broad way which leads to destruction and to hell.
“She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men,” God told Cain that sin lieth at the door. There is only two things you can let into that heart of yours: sin or Christ. If a man wants to do wrong and he starts out on that path for personal profit or pleasure, and before long he is involved in a religious, political, commercial system. And that is what is revealed in Revelation 17 and 18.
