“A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” (Proverbs 15:23).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” (Proverbs 15:23).

“A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth,” when a man gets saved he confesses with his mouth the Lord Jesus. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10).

The day you answered Gods “Are you a sinner?” with “Yes I am! And I need Jesus Christ,” I guarantee that that brought you a “joy unspeakable and full of glory” (I Peter 1:8).

If something is true and right, and it brings reward, “a man hath joy by the answer of his mouth.”

“. . . and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” What’s good? A word spoken in due season, a word of comfort, a word of truth, a word of kindness. When a word fitly spoke the Gospel to another man in due season, the recipient of that kindness has joy by the answer of his mouth—Yes to God! Someone asked him, “If you were to die today are you 100% sure that you will go to heaven?” and he said, “No! But I need to know.”

And when they get it, they get joy.

A. J. Gordon gives us an example of a "word fitly spoken":

I went to see a young man who was near his end. Seeing the time was short, I came at once to the all-important subject: “Friend, I see that you are very ill. Are you prepared for what is before you?”

“Wish I only were,” he replied, giving me a look of despair. “If I could but be spared for two or three weeks, I believe I might be prepared; but the doctor tells me I can live for only a few hours probably.”

“Three weeks,” I said; “why do you want three weeks?”

Then he went on to give me his idea of preparation and conversion, and added, “All of which must occupy some weeks.”

“What!” I exclaimed. “Three weeks in order to be saved? Let me tell you that you may be saved, yes, in three minutes” -— and so saying I opened the word of God and read, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

Inviting Jesus into his heart, he was saved instantly! Shortly, he went into eternity thanking and praising the Lord for saving him!

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
