Moscow, July 12, Interfax - Eid al-Adha celebrations will be held in an online format in Moscow this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and consistent with the decision made by the Council of Ulema of the Spiritual Muslim Board of Russia.

"The festive prayer will be delivered in Moscow only in the Cathedral Mosque with the participation of imams, muezzins and deputy mufti. It is not recommended to deliver the festive prayer in other mosques and local religious organizations of Muslims. All Muslims should celebrate the holiday at home, with their families," the Board said on its website.

The statement noted that regional Muslim departments, members of the Spiritual Muslim Board of Russia, should make their own decision regarding the festive prayer with due account of the epidemiological situation in their regions.

This year, the main Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha, will be observed on July 20. Believers were not allowed to pray in mosques in Moscow last year either because of the coronavirus pandemic.
