I was really into “Hard Sci-Fi at the time, a Trekkie, and total fan of the Space Program. I expected a “hard sci-fi space opera”, but didn’t get that till “2001 A Space Odyssey” the same year, which I saw in the same theater.
2001 had one view of the future, and POTA had a very different one.
