“His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray" (Proverbs 5:22-23).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray" (Proverbs 5:22-23).

“His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself,” if you could just remember that really and truly the eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good and whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap, and you keep those things before your eyes. If those are the rein on one side of the horse’s mouth, and the other the rein on the other side the horse’s mouth, you'll be alright. That’s the controller.

“. . . and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins,” that sin becomes the master.

“He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray,”

Some people say, “Well, I'm going to wait until my death bed, and then I’ll be converted. You may not have the opportunity. You may not have the mind left, especially these days when they drug you up with morphine and you're out of it for four or five days before you die.

But aside from that, “He shall die without instruction,” the Catholic Church has a thing going where they give last rites and also try to get there in time to give the last rites, and in theory that might be a good enough idea, but it doesn't work very well; because if you're not tender when you're healthy, there is no guarantee that you'll be tender when your ready to die. We've seen that over and over. “He shall die without instruction,” Herod, he was eaten by worms, he died without instruction. Saul, fell on his own sword, he died without instruction. For all we know, Pontius Pilot died without instruction.

“. . . and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.” I have a quote here that says, “No man gets to the right place by going the wrong way,” and that's certainly true.

Consider this which was written in the "Bible Expositor and Illuminator"

"The British military hospital was filled with badly wounded soldiers. A nurse was overheard to say to one of them, “You have no need to worry over your sins. Anyone who gives his life for his country, as you have been willing to do, is all right.”

"The soldier smiled faintly but shook his head and replied, “That’s a mistake! When I lay out there in the open, I knew I had done my bit. I hadn’t failed my king and country, but that didn’t help me to face God. I wasn’t fit to die, and I knew it; and it has been awfully troublesome to me every day since. But when I heard a Christian lady who visited us here pray, I saw that the Lord Jesus had been punished for all my sins that I might go free, and peace has come into my heart. How wonderful of Him to die for one like me!”"

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
