PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 7/1/2021

“How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” (Proverbs 1:22).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” (Proverbs 1:22).

The simple man needs to learn some things from scorners, and so if you have scenario where you have a scorner; what you ought to be thinking about rather than saving him, might be saving somebody else that is standing by and listening. In this case, you respond to him patiently and respectfully, knowing that the other two are listening. God may give you an opportunity to present the Gospel to that/those other one/ones at a different time. It is possible that your treatment of the scorner may have gained respect for you on their part.

Don't become scorners. Don't get to a point where you feel comfortable laughing at authority figures behind their back. Eventually it will be in their face. You can see young people developing into scorners in their pre-teens. Young ladies start down that road with the eye roll when they are about 11-years-old. Parents need to drive that out of her while they still can. Do it before your daughter comes to a place where one day somebody who knows a lot more than they do tries to talk to them, and the eye roll becomes a belly laugh. And if they are not careful, their present path is leading them to a very slippery slope. Folks, don't become a scorner. You are a fool to go there. In fact, a scorner is much further removed from being a mere fool.

“Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease" (Proverbs 22:10).

Sometimes, the best way to deal with a scorner is they just need to go away. Don’t waste valuable time trying to convince a fool against his will, there are too many others that will listen. “How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?”

Years ago Dwight L. Moody and Robert G. Ingersoll passed from the stage of action. They were born within a few months of each other and died within a few months of each other, and they died each one as he had lived.

As types of character, they were poles apart. One was serious and the other scornful; one prayerful, the other profane; one reverent, the other addicted to ridicule of holy things. One was a student of the Bible for soul-culture, and the other, a railer against it for silver and gold.

The· deathbed scene of one was the gate of Heaven; that of the other, the desolation of darkness.

One received and enjoyed the grace of God; the other resisted and rejected the same! One still lives in thousands of converts, great schools, conquering churches, philanthropic and benevolent movements a multitude; the other, in souls steeped in skepticism and in bodies bloated by bad conduct.

“Choose you this day”!

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
