The Russians/Soviets do monuments right. Every major city seems to have elaborate one honoring those that died in WWII.
Yakutsk looks like an interesting place in Siberia. A lot of YouTubers have done videos from there. It's minus 30 to minus 50 F there in the winter.
I always wanted to also see Mamayev Kurgan, the Stalingrad monument.
One awesome thing they do on VE Day is “The Immortal Regiment” where people march carrying the pictures of their relatives who fought in The Great Patriotic War. And this was something that was started spontaneously, it was not instigated by the Russian goverment.
And as someone said, “A nation that doesn’t honor its’ heroes, will be ruled by one that does.”
