For the Catholic Church in the US, the past few decades have not been good. Thousands have deserted the pews already out of disgust at paedophile priests, cover ups and other manifestations of gross hypocrisy.
Bishops for years kept themselves busy moving paedophile priests from parish to parish, diocese to diocese – all the while, presumably, allowing these priests who raped little boys and girls to receive communion.
At the same time, countless lay Catholics have been denied access to the Eucharist for "sins" such as remarrying after divorcing an abusive or adulterous spouse.
One now-notorious US priest, when challenged on the chasm between the response to paedophilia and abortion, stated: "Paedophilia doesn't kill anyone and this does."
Capital punishment does kill people in the US, to this day. But so far, there has been no move to deny access to communion for any Catholic politician who supports capital punishment.
It is difficult to see the decision of the US bishops this week to move forward with drafting a document that would in effective seek to penalise President Joe Biden for his support for the right to choose on abortion, as anything other than a political intervention...

I’m sorry. Who in the hell is Ruth again? Why is she speaking on behalf of the church?
The “Catholic left” and their secular cheerleaders love to drag out the tired, old what-about-conservatives-and-capital-punishment argument. Ratzinger tackled that one years ago:
“3. Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia. For example, if a Catholic were to be at odds with the Holy Father on the application of capital punishment or on the decision to wage war, he would not for that reason be considered unworthy to present himself to receive Holy Communion. While the Church exhorts civil authorities to seek peace, not war, and to exercise discretion and mercy in imposing punishment on criminals, it may still be permissible to take up arms to repel an aggressor or to have recourse to capital punishment. There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with regard to abortion and euthanasia.”

The ‘everybody’s doin it’ is no reason to accept it.
It wouldn’t be wrong. It might be imprudent ... that is a situational judgment.
How much did the author get paid for this 1000-word drivel/ noise?
either a church has principles or it does not.
Ruth’s lies, misrepresentations, and attempts at rationalization won’t stand the final test.
One principle is that God is sovereign and will admit into His presence for eternal joy those whom He judges acceptable.
St. Paul’s writing on the Eucharist indicates that it is up to the recipient to judge himself worthy or unworthy to receive. For those who make the wrong judgment, God provides the penalty.
“..all the while, presumably, allowing these priests who raped little boys and girls to receive communion.”
I missed where these priests demanded pedophile rights. People in a grave state of sin do receive Communion they do this because priests are not mind readers. However when a public figure loudly declares he or she supports what the Church very clearly teaches is a grave sin they have made know they are not worthy to receive the sacrament. To give them Communion would be a scandal to the faithful.
That is correct, as far as it goes. However, Joe Biden professes to be a practicing Catholic and he is under subjection to Church leaders in spiritual matters. Elsewhere St. Paul says:
"Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you." (Hebrews 13:17, DRV)
If Joe Biden doesn't like it, he can be honest and stop calling himself a Catholic and stop profaning the Eucharist.
‘
It would be wrong to keep little kids from him, too.
That’s the line of thinking, and it’s a very old tale.
Rules don’t apply to the Biden’s.

The Pope was constantly opposing whatever Trump had to say.
Scam Global warming, or whatever position that was 180 degrees Trump position.
It was a way to undermine Trump and traditional America.

What is “Christian Today”?
Sounds like a rip off of Christianity Today.
And this argument was ludicrous.
I know nothing about catholic dogma, but if anyone can decide they are worthy, what is the issue ?
So it the priests who do not feel comfortable with it ?
kinda like a pharmacist who doesnt want to sell the morning after pill ?
you take care of your own church first... then worry about others
The leftists always portray the homosexual predator priests as “raping little boys and girls”, when in fact they are seducing pubescent boys, which is something the leftists actually support.
God knows I have enough of my own stuff to work on without my presuming to judge another person's heart, but let's look at the fruits of Joe Biden's life, which are a bit different from what this writer claims -- a serial liar, a plagiarist, a foul-mouth, a man who takes liberties (in public) with females old and young, a skinny-dipper who requires the presence of female secret service agents, a wheeler-dealer who uses his position to benefit from crooked business deals, a man who allegedly personally opposes abortion but whose administration's budget removed the ban on federal offending of abortion, and a president whose administration stands a good chance of being one of the most corrupt in history. I hope Joe Biden fears God and doesn't presume upon God's grace. If that is where is he, then I hope he changes. When a bishop or priest proposes banning Biden from communion, they are doing so to bring him to repentance, for the good of his soul and for his salvation.

This is just as true of the LCMS (my church), the Orthodox, and any church that recognizes the true presence of Christ in the elements of the Eucharist.
A priest shouldn't deny Biden the sacrament because Biden's a sonovab*tch who wants to see babies killed. He denies the sacrament because what brings forgiveness and mercy to the repentant sinner brings judgement and damnation to the unrepentant sinner (I Cor. 11:29), and the church loves Joe Biden enough to keep him as safe as possible from judgement as long as he is alive.
