“Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge” (Proverbs 19:27).
Where would a man get instruction that cases him to err? Well, there is television, universities, false Bible teachers, some “scientific” instruction such as evolution and human sexuality; in essence, anything and everything that stands in opposition to “the faith once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3). That is, the system of doctrinal truth.
Obviously, public schools train, teach, and employ methods and philosophies and ideologies that are opposed to the Word of God. A child of God should stay out of public schools as much as possible with their “oppositions of science falsely so called” (I Timothy 6:20). Anymore, they are about nothing more than socialist training centers trying to rewrite history so that the founding fathers were racists and evil. It is the public schools that are going to one day be responsible for America trashing the United States Constitution and embracing a globalist inclusivity.
Stop listening to fools! Cut off those foolish friends! Get out of that false church! Turn the television off! Change your degree program! Turn that radio station off! Reject their jokes! Burn those books and magazines! Do not listen to that preacher! Get a job transfer!
God had King Solomon write Proverbs to make you wise. If you listen to this world’s contrary ideas, their ignorant advice will cause you great confusion and corrupt the wisdom you should have acquired. Worldly instruction will ruin you. Guard your ears.
From babyhood, parents must help their young realize that this world is evil, wicked, profane— and no place fit for a Christian. Television is very worldly and must be taken sparingly in small doses, if at all. Pastors, of all people, must set a godly example and hold a high standard for their flocks. (This is one reason why music in church should not be tainted with the contemporary beat.) We are to “resist the devil,” not encourage him! Cultivate and pray for spiritual discernment in all things—church, school, spending, entertainment.
Charles Jeffries writes:
"Sin is deceitful. It promises pleasure; it gives pain. It offers life; it gives death. It opens out as bright as the morning; it closes as dark as night.
It is a beast of prey. Under a velvet paw it conceals a claw with which it wounds and lacerates those who would stroke it.
In every sin there is the seed of another sin. It is self-propagating. It roots itself in the soul of the sinner until it has used up every bit of good soil in the soul.
It corrupts his nature, perverts his tastes, weakens his will and scars his conscience.
And with each evil deed, inclinations towards evil become stronger and stronger, until the sinner “cannot cease from sin” and he is 'consumed by his own lusts.'
Sin is a very promising employer—and a terrible paymaster."
