[Catholic Caucus] Cordileone Won’t Do It For the Sake of "Unity"

CrisisMagazine.com editor Eric Sammons asked “conservative” San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone on May 21 why he doesn't deny Communion to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 81, a leading promotor of abortion who lives in his Archdiocese.

Cordileone replied that after nine years at the helm of the Archdiocese he is “not at that point yet” because he is still in early stages of discerning what would be best for the Church in “preserving unity.”

He argues that Pelosi has “done good” but admitted that this does not justify perpetrating very evil deeds. Asked when the Church - after fifty years of abortion – will finally deny Communion to promotors of abortion, Cordileone replied that he lacks “a social movement behind him.”

Cordileone is one of the most conservative bishops in the West and publicly supports theoretically denying Communion to abortion politicians. However, even after nine years, his position in San Francisco Archdiocese is still weak and has grown weaker with Francis since the Council Church is not bowing to the power of truth but the truth of the power (see above: "social movement").

St. Athanasius wasn’t concerned about “discernment” or keeping “unity” with other bishops.

I’m in Cordileone’s diocese. While I’d very much like to see him put the hammer down on Pelosi, and I’m disappointed that he hasn’t and doesn’t, I am willing to cut him some slack. Why? Because I know that he’s a friend to the traditionalist/TLM wing of the Church... the first such friend in San Francisco since Vatican II.

I’m not justifying his reticence, but can a general fight a war without troops? I guess, but it’s hard. Let’s say that Cordileone were to decree that Pelosi’s parish, St Vincent de Paul, can’t give her communion. Would the priests and/or Eucharistic ministers honor his decree? I wouldn’t necessarily bet on that. The priests of the diocese are mostly pretty bad — go-along-to-get-along liberals. Only among the very young under 40 priests do you generally start finding quality. And the laity? There are some pockets of conservatism here and there, but again the story is go-along-to-get-along liberals. Would Pelosi’s fellow parishioners at St Vincent de Paul have her back or Cordileone’s in a war between the two? Sadly, I’d probably have to bet on the former.

The Catholic Left would love to somehow get Bergoglio to squeeze Cordileone out of his job. The nail that sticks out gets hammered down. In short, if Cordileone went to war with Pelosi, we can’t necessarily assume he’d win.

Then for what good should a bishop be to his flock, if he's afraid he'll be disobeyed?

For crying out loud, both he and Pelosi have been in San Franciso for nine years, a he's still "discerning"?

Fear, understandable, but not heroic. Attacks would come from all sides: gay activists, lib catholics, lib media, govt powers, maybe even lawsuits, definitely anti-Church PR.

The modernist, liberal anti-traditional catholic AND the Schismatic wing are cheering on the "Burn it down" mentality from both ends... They both want the Church to take the fight into the sewer of the political realm - giving the Biden/Pelosi's of the world a further boost into the spotlight to inflict more division.

Cordileone is a very good man... but just not good enough for those who have made it their job to be the "Church Critical" .... Judge and Jury, so to speak.

Who doesnt resent the abuse? these faithless people are committing unworthily? upon themselves?...
but thats what they are doing--- to themselves.... Paul did not say those who don't discern the Sacrament correctly "bring judgement down upon the Church" - but rather he clearly states that Judgement is upon THEMSELVES. Those who's Faith is too weak to trust in the Holy Spirit - put their faith in vengeance and retribution.

Christ would have us keeping with examining our own consciences... rather than constantly examining the consciences of others...

So say the goofballs who think the heretic, Bobby Baron, is "a very good man" and post his tripe on a daily basis as if it's the Word of God.

Bobby Barron and his "Pants on Fire".

The modernists don't care about the sacrilege of giving the Body of Christ to unrepentant souls in the state of mortal sin. Nor, do the modernists give a damn about those poor souls' chances of salvation or the salvation of those very clerics who knowingly give Holy Communion to these pro-aborts.

The motto of the modernist is to live and let live: she only lives for herself; she's not concerned about the souls of others. That is not charity for one's neighbor; it's selfishness.

Finally, modernists, Murph, refer to any traditional Catholics they disagree with as "schismatics". Modernists act like petulant children.
