Daily Mass Gospel Reading - Rules for "Radicals"
Word on Fire Ministry ^ | 6-7-2021 | Aux. Bishop R. Barron

TENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

MATTHEW 5:1–12

Friends, our Gospel for today is one of the most beautiful and important in the New Testament: the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, the eight Beatitudes. Why is it so important? Because it is the Son of God telling us how to be happy. It is the one who can’t be wrong telling us how to achieve that which each of us most basically wants. What could be more compelling?

At the heart of Jesus’ program are these Beatitudes: "Blessed are the merciful" and "Blessed are the peacemakers." These name the very heart of the spiritual program, for they name the ways that we participate most directly in the divine life.

One of the most important words used to describe God in the Old Testament is chesed (tender mercy). The New Testament version of this is found in the First Letter of John: God is agape (love). Everything else we say about God should be seen as an aspect of this chesed and this agape. Chesed is compassion; agape is willing the good of the other. Therefore, if you want to be happy, desire to be like God. Do it and you’ll be happy.

+++"Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.
Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
+++

God’s radical love requires our kind treatment of those who
mistreat us.

It's interesting that Booby Barron uses the term Rules for Radicals.

That's the title of a book that Saul Alinsky published in 1971.

Alinsky dedicated that book to Satan:

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom.” — Lucifer.

Then why do you use it is derogatorily when referring to traditional Catholics as "Rad-Trads" or "big Knuckleheads"?

Sounds hypocritical, much like Bergoglio and Barron.

I’ve heard so many sentimentalized homilies and discourses lately on “love.” Thank you Barron for reminding us that love is to will the good of the other.

Must have been at Novus Ordo Gay Pride masses. Love the sinner and their sins.
