“To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words " (Proverbs 2:16).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words " (Proverbs 2:16).

Your parents are your guide because you don't know what you're doing. You might say, “Well, sometimes my parents don't know what they're doing,” and they will probably admit it if you really talk to them, and sometimes we don't know what we're doing, but we know what we are doing better than you do. One of the major temptations a kid faces when they become a teenager is that they think that they are capable of handling life. All the while you prove that you're not, but you still think that you can; and you can't you can't afford to forsake that guide yet.

You say, “Well, I know a bunch of kids that don't have good parents and they're raising themselves just fine.” Well, you do have parents that still do their best they can to feed you the Bible and to do what's right, and you had better honor them. And perhaps you need to understand that you have been listening to the flattering words of the strange woman.

Okay, the woman in Proverbs 2:17 forsakes the guide of her youth. The implication is that the woman in verse 17; this strange woman, used to be in a different spot than she is now. If you start talking about the great Whore of Babylon, one of the things that immediately pops to mind is Roman Catholicism to anyone that knows their Bible. Now, Roman Catholicism did spring out of Christianity in that you had some Christian scholars that tried to amalgamate heathenism and paganism with philosophy and everything else; and it became a monster, it became the great whore. At its root, however, she still had a “guide in her youth.” She wasn't an entity quite as we think of her now, but her roots are basically our roots until she messed up the roots; replacing the Bible with philosophy and traditions. She forsook the guide of her youth.

“Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God." If there's a verse that can show you how big a mess you can make of your life after you're a Christian, Proverbs 2:17 would be that verse. Clearly, you forsake the God of your youth and forsake the covenant of your God, you’ll wind up either an evil man or a strange woman.

Dr. R. A. Forrest, founder of Toccoa Falls College in Georgia, gave a short, beautiful testimony on his eightieth birthday: “Well, as to the past, many happy memories; as to the present, peace and contentment; and as to the future, the best is yet to come!” Thus spoke a true Christian.

Don't you want to part with the foolish, counterfeit philosophy of this dying world and give your life to Jesus Christ?

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
