“Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness” (Proverbs 31:23-27).
In verse 10, we saw her principles. In verse 11, her prudence. In verse 12, her persistence In verse 13, her positive attitude. In verse 14, her provision. In verse 15, her preparation. In verse 16, her purchasing. In verse 17, her physical fitness. In verse 18, her perception. In verse 19, her practical side. In verse 20, her philanthropy. In verse 21-22, her precaution.
In verse 23, we see her partnership. It says, “Her husband is known in the gates among the elders of the land.” That was a common thing back in those days, the place of concourse, the place of political action of a city, was within the gates. And this man was a very important man. Her husband was known in the gate, and she's a good wife. Its been said many times that behind every great man there's a great woman. It takes a good woman for a man to be at his best.
“Her husband is known in the gates.” she had a good partner.
Look at her profit in verse 24, “She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.” God is not against the capitalistic system. You'll find in Acts chapter 5, that a man had some property and was allowed to sell it and make all the money he wanted off of it. Here she makes fine linen and sells it and delivers the girdles to the merchant and the Bible said that she is a virtuous woman. You will find in the Bible that fine linen is as the righteousness of the saints in Revelation 19:7-8, and I tell you a good woman is doing all she can for the Lord.
In verse 25 we see her poise, “Strength and honour are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come.” This woman has poise. She's confidant; she knows where she's going, and she knows where she came from. She lives for God. She's got the right purpose. She's got the right slant on life. She's got poise. She’s going to reap because of what her husband reaps, because of what her children reaps. And then finally she will reap at the last judgment, Ecclesiastes 12:14, when God makes all things right.
In verse 26 is found her pleasantness. “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” In dealing with others, she knows how to talk, and the reason she does is because she knows God. In Matthew 12:36 it says “That every idle word that man shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” She knows that she will give account for what she said, so she opens her mouth in wisdom. Something else about a woman that's wise, sometimes she knows when to keep it shut.
“She openeth her mouth with wisdom,” in other words, she knows when the talk and how to talk, “and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” She's not afraid to tell you what's right and what's wrong, but when she does, it is with kindness. “Speaking the truth in love,” is how the Christian is told to speak.
