Holy like this?

“To be holy refers to a state of being set apart from defilement. The Hebrew word translated “holy” comes from a term meaning “separate.” Thus, what is holy is separated from common use, or held sacred, especially by virtue of its being clean and pure.”

Does the word sanctification ring a bell? And while we are mentioning it, you should read what the bible says about what we do with our bodies or put into it, that defiles it, what we as Christians should never do.

So tell me, SB777, how can a Christian live a holy life, set apart from the non-holy, without commandments from God telling us how to do that? Do you just guess and hope it’s right? Plenty of people who refuse to OBEY God think they have the answer. Unfortunately, God’s response will probably be this:

Matthew 7:
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Iniquity = lawlessness. If there is no law, there is no sin. ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT SIN NO LONGER EXISTS?

Are you telling me that God’s 10 commandment law is now optional? (Ravi thought so)

This might be news to you: Because of what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross, we are under an even HIGHER OBLIGATION to obey him.

Hebrews 10:
26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

If you say you are a Christian and love Jesus Christ, you will keep his commandments.

Rev: 22
11He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev: 21
27And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Can you tell me why Jesus would say if we love him to KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, if it were impossible to do so?

Can you tell me why the bible CLEARLY tells us that the group that believes in Jesus Christ as their savior AND are keepers of His commandments, will be in heaven?

Rev 14:
12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev: 22:
14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Is it just possible that you are mistaken about the term “no longer under the law?”

Maybe you follow the “Ravi Principle” as do many of your friends on FR? If that is the case, then sin does not apply to you and congratulations are in order. (By the way, is raping women and committing adultery being holy?...not saying Ravi did it, but if he did….) asking for a friend.

Romans 4:8
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin.”
2 Cor. 5:21
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Hebrews 8:12
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Philippians 3:9
And be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
Romans 4:5
And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,

I could go through the night listing scripture after scripture just as you have.

It’s all through the lens of God’s grace in Jesus. Clearly you see God as harsh. I see God as loving and merciful.

“Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins”

Mosaic law sacrifices didn’t cover willful sin, which is why the people here in Hebrews were being reminded to stick with Jesus instead of reverting back to the old law.

Read the previous verse-

Hebrews 10:10 - And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
