PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 5/26/2021

“Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross” (Proverbs 26:23).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross” (Proverbs 26:23).

Verse 23, again in this context. You have heard of a dollar bill burning a hole in somebody's pocket; they just want to go spend the money. Well, somebody with burning lips is apparently a person that has a story to tell, and they can't wait to tell it, and it isn’t the gospel story they are burning to tell.

Now, a “potsherd,” if you look it up is a broken-off piece of pottery. We would call it a shard. So, this guy's heart and tongue is like a potsherd covered in silver dross. What this is telling you right away is the guy with the story he's burning to tell, and the guy with a wicked heart is going to put silver over those things to make it seem just and right and pretty. Well, a lie that is silver plated is still a lie, it just sounds pretty.

This is why we live in a day where political correctness rules and you have politicians that talk like they do. They're just very slick, and very smooth when they insult each other. It's almost like they're complimenting each other, and it's just not that way at all.

“For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple” (Romans 16:18).

A man with a wicked heart is going to make things seems sweet when he talks with his silver-plaited words. The deceivers and wicked teachers do not get up and laugh like a vampire and then proceed to teach dark awful things. It's all sweet. It's all loving. It's all about how much you'll be helped, and all that kind of stuff. They use silver over the potsherd they're going to disembowel you with.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

Deceivers and wicked teachers are far more abundant than we allow ourselves to believe. God and his word provide THE truth in order for we that believe in Jesus Christ can see this in plain sight and it allows us to see the beauty and righteousness of our Fathers creation. As I learn more with age I am astounded as to how many are deceived and how many wicked teach darkness unbeknownst even to themselves as Satan utilizes this exact tactic....he is the deceiver as told from Gods word. Thank you as always Pilgrim!
