PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 5/18/2021

“The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear” (Proverbs 18:14).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear” (Proverbs 18:14).

“. . . but a wounded spirit who can bear,” this is when someone or something wounds that thing in a man whereby God grants him understanding. So, that leads me to think of a couple of things. When the so-called Bible scholars destroy in me my confidence in the word of God, what have they done? They have set me up with a wounded spirit, and “a wounded spirit who can bear.” Right? Because I have allowed them to rob from me that by which God gives me understanding. Just a thought.

It says there that “the spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear.”

I got a brainstorm about this a few days ago. Notice that this is an example of what kind of spirit might be in a man. We know that Daniel had an excellent spirit. Right? It was acknowledged by the King and all the men around him.

“Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile” (Psalms 32:2).

There is a guy that has a spirit in him. He is guileless. He is not trying to get away with something. He is not trying to sneak anything. He just wants to know the truth. He just wants to get the truth. He desires to get the understanding. So, God gives that man understanding by inspiration. Right? “The inspiration of the almighty giveth them understanding” (Job 32:8). My point is that whatever it is in a man's spirit then that twists away, that perverts, that attribute to want to know the truth. That part of man where he does not want the truth, where you kind of want to be sneaky, this sinful, perhaps delusive part, and you will avoid the truth if possible. He will play bullfighter with the truth if he can. He will let the ball go by while trying to avoid it. He will do anything to avoid running head-on with the truth. That man is setting himself up with the wrong kind of spirit. And I wonder what might happen to a man that has a guileful spirit; somebody just wants to come and have a constant desire to be offended, to twist something around just so they do not have to deal with the truth. Well, they are setting themselves up for a fall.

Well, we know this, that “the spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity.” Somewhere along the way we are all going to have to sustain infirmaries. Right? Somewhere along the way somebody close to us is probably going to die. Somewhere along the way some of us are going to suffer a tragic catastrophe in our lives or whatever, yet we are assured from the scripture that “the spirit in man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear.”

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

Good gosh , if that doesn’t encapsulate my approach years ago I don’t know does. Beautiful posting Pilgrim ! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this...I bet you reach far more people than you think! God be with you and let him bless your caring enough about others to post his word. All glory and praise to our loving God , without the chaos would engulf us all entirely.
