It’s possible that Bergoglio, himself, is excommunicated for several reasons, one being his cooperation with the St Gallen mafia in interfering with the last papal conclave.
Hmm, interesting. Excommunication only occurs under very specific conditions. I don’t think conspiring to get yourself elected pope (if that’s even true) is one of them.
Just fyi:
Catholics are automatically excommunicated for committing these offenses:
Procuring of abortion
Apostasy: The total rejection of the Christian faith.
Heresy: The obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth, which must be believed with divine and Catholic faith.
Schism: The rejection of the authority and jurisdiction of the pope as head of the Church.
Desecration of sacred species (Holy Communion)
From Wiki:
In Latin Catholic canon law, excommunication is a rarely applied censure and thus a “medicinal penalty” intended to invite the person to change behaviour or attitude, repent, and return to full communion. It is not an “expiatory penalty” designed to make satisfaction for the wrong done, much less a “vindictive penalty” designed solely to punish: “excommunication, which is the gravest penalty of all and the most frequent, is always medicinal”, and is “not at all vindictive”.
