“A just weight and balance are the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag are his work. It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness” (Proverbs 16:11-12).
Here we are dealing with weights of the bag, and measurements of a business: “Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt” (Leviticus 19:35-36).
When a man is honest in business and in dealings with other Christians, that is from the Lord. “A just weight and balance ARE the LORD’s,” if God had never told man what is right, man would just do wrong all the time. We’ve all gone out of the way, even though God told us to do right, we still go astray. We didn’t have anything to go by, so the Law was added to keep sin down.
If we didn’t have the Law written on our hearts, and written on tablets that were given to Moses, we would not have any just weight—you couldn’t trust anybody. There are some societies where that is still true. You go down into parts of Mexico and they will steal everything. It doesn’t mean a thing to them to kill a man a cold blood, especially where the cartels are in control. All they have down there is a pagan religion, it doesn’t glorify God, it doesn’t deify righteousness, it’s just an every man for himself mess. But they have plenty of statues to kiss.
“. . . all the weights of the bag are his work,” He gave them the Law.
“It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.”
“It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness,” God established the kingdom of man, Romans 13 says that the powers that be are ordained of God. If God set up kings, and God gave kings the power of judgment, then when a king does wrong, he is misusing that power. Every person has some responsibility in life to somebody. If you are an adult, God has put you over somebody. Now if you have been put in some position and given authority, have you used it or have you abused it? If you have misused it or abused it, that is an abomination to God.
If you are the head of a family, you are to execute judgment properly. You are to do it the way that God wants it to be done. It is an abomination to fail. It is an abomination to kings, it is an abomination to preachers, it is an abomination to fathers, it is an abomination to mothers to commit wickedness and misuse your authority.
