“My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment” (Proverbs 8:19-20).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment” (Proverbs 8:19-20).

“My fruit is better than gold,” and you know what? You don't even believe that. “My fruit is better than gold,” because if you believed that, you wouldn’t worry as much about money as you do. I do the same thing. “My fruit is better than gold,” if we believed it, we probably wouldn’t be as worried about money as we are. If we are Bible-believers, we better believe it. Now, this doesn’t say that we can be irresponsible. It doesn’t say that you can get by without any concerns at all, just that you wouldn't be as preoccupied by it.

“My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.” Revenue is something that is generated. If I invest in buying an apartment complex, then what I get out of it is revenue; because all the apartment renters are paying me to rent. That's revenue. Okay, spiritually then, it's not just that I'm laying up wisdom and understanding for myself; but there's other revenue that comes out of it. You understand that it is more than my original investment.

“. . . my revenue than choice silver,” and it goes on in verse 20, “I lead in the way of righteousness.” So, wisdom never leads you into unrighteousness. Wisdom is never going to lead you to do wrong. It won’t take you to an evil path. If you are on an evil path, it won't have been wisdom that led you there.

“I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment.” There is the other big bugaboo for the modern Christian. All you have to do is say the word judgment and immediately somebody will jump down your throat. “Judge not let you be judged!” It’s not right for Christians to judge!” It is right for Christians to judge.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
