Well... we should enjoy "working it out"....

17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
18 For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth.

There’s a big difference between endeavoring to follow God’s Commandments and boasting about it in a public forum.

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

You made your assertion. Prove it!

We know for a fact that Catholicism has invariably protected and moved around its pedo priests.

You now have to prove your assertion that it’s an endemic problem across all non-Catholics too.

I mean, if you don’t, then that would be a violation of the Eighth Commandment and a mortal sin, considering how deliberate your statement was.

Yeah.

And you can see that the difference is... Catholicism covers it up.

Only thing that YOU proved was the SBC has a problem and their President apparently knew something and said nothing. And see, the SBC isn’t all Christians.

That’s not the same as the entire leadership of Catholicism being involved in the cover-up and moving pedophiles around to molest more children.

And yet you’re insisting that Catholicism’s shit don’t stink.

Again, a *false* equivalence.

You both sound very proud of your efforts.

Not proud at all but at least we believe in "works", i.e."efforts" and not "faith alone".

Just saying.

that’s not from the Bible which is critical to substantiating TRUTH.

Did you actually read the article? Gregory of Nyssa and Gregory the Great had a better knowledge of Sacred Scripture than anyone you have ever met or read in your life.

What you said above is nothing more than an excuse to disengage your brain.

Here it is again. Read it and respond:
"I beseech you to pray unto our Lord for me" ~ Ancient Roots of the Doctrine of Purgatory, Part II

“…It is plain that in such state as a man departs out of this life, in the same he is presented in judgment before God. But yet we must believe that before the day of judgment there is a Purgatory fire for certain small sins: because our Savior says, “That he which speaketh blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, that it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come [Matthew 12:32].” ~Pope Saint Gregory the Great (ca. AD 600)

It's a bit rich to listen to a Protestant whinging about heresy. Sorry, I'll go with Gregory the Great over your interpretation of Scripture any day.

In all seriousness, why wouldn’t you just go with the Bible? No source of information is above the Word of God. None. There is nothing in the Bible that states you can pray for the dead (except that which is prohibited as wicked) and only Jesus Christ is our mediator with God, not his mother.

Again, did you read Gregory the Great’s interpretation in the aforementioned article? HE USES THE BIBLE, indeed the very words of Christ.

He does not use Scripture accurately AT ALL. To blaspheme the Holy Spirit is to credit the devil with what the Holy Spirit does.

I highly encourage YOU to read the Bible. What this article states is not even close to Biblical truth. Your sins are covered by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior. You do not get your sins purged in heaven.

If you really want to know who God is and what He says, read the Word of God.

No, symbolized by water. That’s why the Hebrews believed/favored in moving water Mikvahs.

Like Limbo only with purgatory you have a chance for heaven.

Seriously, though, and this is not me being snarky for once on this thread.

Be wary that what God expects is perfection; no amount of soul-shining will be satisfactory. The way that many Catholics I know talk about Purgatory is that they treat it like a payment for their sins, as if suffering can atone or turn the dead body of sin into a living body of Christ.

Yes, I know that the theology is different, but there’s a difference between what’s confessed and what you actually believe, and actions reflect that.

You gotta depend on what Christ has done for you; all good works follow from that. Otherwise, from everything I’ve seen, it’s almost impossible to not get caught in the cycle of do-good-works-be-proud-realize-that-it’s-sin-try-to-make-up-for-it-with-good-works-again. Or worse, just do-good-works-be-proud-abandon-Christ-for-self-worship.

LOL! Protestants not covering it up?

Why with the article I posted are things that happened long ago in Protestant Churches only now coming up if they were not covered up?

But again, to repeat, the true deposit of faith is found in the Catholic Church, no where else. The sins of the clergy are irrelevant.
