There is scripture basis for Purgatory.

Trouble is that Luther threw those quotes out of the complete Bible.

Keep looking — you will find it.

“There is scripture basis for Purgatory.”

With the way the Catholic Org of Rome can twsit scripture, there might be a passage somewhere that they can twist to claim it supports Gregory’s imagined purgatory. It’s magic dontchaknow, Roman Catholic Magic Thining.

The most dangerous false doctrine is the private interpretation of scriptures

No one would argue with that. But that position has the same problem as man made institution interpretation of scripture. Which if you think about it is still private interpretation of scripture.

So where does that leave one? What does God say on the matter?

Jer 31:33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’

The new covenant is a direct relationship with God, being born again, and the holy spirit teaching through the scripture.

--but if not to purgatory, where did all those who died go before Christ opened the gates of Heaven? --
______

Another way this question is asked is whether or not people born before Jesus can even be saved, and if so, how?

We know some were saved because the Apostles saw Moses and Elijah with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. As for Purgatory, Moses and Elijah were not in Hell and Christ had not yet opened the Gates of Heaven, so where would they have been since they died?

“Why don’t you try offering the scriptural basis for purgatory in the New Testament, from the words of the New Testament and not a Catholic Catechism book. If you can.”

Refer to the Old Testament...and to the complete Bible not the shortened version you Protestants use. Your theology is incomplete because after 1,500 years one lunatic decided to correct God and remove some of His Bible.

Identifying what you are, a cultist, is not ‘foul mouthing you’.

You are a foul-mouthed bully. Ask anyone. (And you calling me a cultist just makes me laugh.)

Again,

The temporal failings of the catholic church is not because of its teachings. IMHO its teachings are the Truth and will prevail, regardless of how rotten its administrators are

I dont agree with presumption that all Truth MUST be found in the Bible. Never read that in the Bible...but it IS “usefull”

They all read the same bible that you read...

Philly ! I went along with your "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours first" game".... but your fallacious idea of thinking everyone is reading the same Bible -well...that just disqualified you.

In my bible I read Maccabees, Sirach and Tobit among some others that your "reformers" rebuked. And so you don't read them either.

Your hero reformers took those books out FALSELY to suit their ego and oersonsl ideals and sin against the Guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Dead Sea Scroll find absolutely indicts "the reformers" for their heresy and malice toward The Church. The reformers where malcontent, dysfunctional sinful men..... I suggest you stop revering them.... also I know now who can help me.

Those verses state that it's the quality of the works that's being tested, not the person's soul that is being purified.

The person's soul is purified by the blood of Jesus, and the record of sin that we carried was wiped clean.

Colossians 2:13-15 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

God then made us alive in the spirit, transferred us to the kingdom of the Son He loves, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

In the spiritual realm, born again believers are already positionally in heaven.

Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

The purification is done by the blood of Jesus when He caused us to be born again and gave us a new, sinless nature.

When this body of flesh dies, the last attachment to sin is done away with and all that remains is the already purified upon the moment of acting on saving faith believer.

Madam, can you assist me?

you seem to have the confidence that others wilt from...

Still looking for some help on this...
Matt 12:32

Do you have any idea what Jesus is saying about not being forgiven in the "age to come" ?? That maybe then sins can be forgiven in Heaven??

+++" 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."+++

What is this about? .... I really want some ideas on this....

IMHO its teachings are the Truth and will prevail, regardless of how rotten its administrators are

The only Truth Catholicism needs to worry about is that found in Scripture.

All the add-ons that it tacked onto Scripture in the form of the Catechism of the catholic church are not divinely inspired Scripture, hence, not Truth or even true.

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

As per Jesus, God sanctifies us using Scripture.

And the purpose for that is not to somehow attain heaven by it, but simply to become more Christlike in this life.

I’m not sure. I would have to think about it.

I’m thinking the Son Of Man would be human(s) — from Adam. I’m thinking the Holy Spirit is God. Some say the only “unforgivable sin” is rejecting/speaking against the Trinity.

But “either in this age or in the age to come” is interesting. Hmmm...

I know there are others on the site who are MUCH more knowledgeable than I am. I did attend Seminary for Church Music, but took only the required basic Bible courses. Those in the Divinity program did the deep dive.

You as a Catholic are in error regarding books in the old testament.
