“He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage” (Proverbs 26:6).
Think about that in light of the fact that we're supposed to be ambassadors for Christ. I can pretty much assure you that a conservative president is not going to appoint a rank anti-Semite to be an ambassador to Israel. He is not going to send the head of the nation of Islam to Jerusalem to represent the United States of America to the Jewish people. Doing that I would cut off the feet and drink damage to our reputation as a friend of Israel.
So, why did God send you as a messenger, as His ambassador? Do you ever think about that? Does your life stand as a good and true representation of Heaven? Can we not do great damage to the cause of Christ if our life is less than godly? Take that verse and turn it around. What kind of messenger did God get when he got you?
This is about a fool, right? 11 times in 12 verses; the fool, the fool, the fool. This verse, verse 6, can be seen in the light of application as God choosing us to be His messenger, and he's given us admonition after admonition, as well as reproof; to be wise, to be discreet, to be prudent, to gain knowledge, to grow, to develop. Did the Lord choose a fool? What are you doing for Him, and where are you going for Him? The answer depends on whether we are walking in the Spirit and being led by the Spirit; or are we walking in the flesh, our carnal nature.
The Lord may have chosen a fool, but we do not have to remain a fool. Our new nature within us wants to do right, and we want to do our calling justice. If we are stewards of the mysteries of God, and we are; we should want to do justice to what He has given us.
“He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.”
Oh, have Thy way, dear Lord, in me, My body I present To Thee, a living sacrifice In service to be spent.
No earthly “things” can matter now Since, Lord, I’ve come to Thee, I have all things and God beside In Christ and Christ in me.
And now, dear Lord, I humbly ask That I in Christ be led, Forgive that once so foolishly I asked for “things” instead.
