Lawmakers in Britain and Australia have moved to ban “conversion therapy,” supporting laws that may criminalize everyday practices common to Christian churches around the world. While LGBT activists — and most Christians — have rightly condemned the historic abuses of “conversion therapy” in the past, modern sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) involve patient-directed talk therapy, not “shock therapy,” and the laws in Britain and Australia may criminalize preaching, counseling, and even prayer.
Some activists and lawmakers in Britain have vocally demanded nothing less. One activist called for legal attempts to “deal with” the “pernicious power of prayer.” A member of Parliament in the Labour Party condemned protections for pastoral support as a “loophole” that would allow “conversion therapy” to continue. The LGBT group Stonewall also condemned any such “loophole.”
How do “conversion therapy” bans restrict everyday church practices? These laws forbid any attempts to “change” a person’s sexual orientation. If a Christian experiences unwanted same-sex attraction, and a pastor preaches the Bible passages forbidding homosexual activity, that may be considered “conversion therapy.” If a pastor counsels that Christian to abstain from sex until he or she enters a Christian marriage between one man and one woman, that may be considered “conversion therapy.”
If the pastor prays for this troubled same-sex attracted Christian, asking God to preserve him or her from sin, that may be considered “conversion therapy.”
Peter Lynas, the UK director of the Evangelical Alliance (EA), wrote to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, warning that the conversion therapy ban Johnson supports in Parliament may criminalize everyday church practices.
“Proposals to end conversion therapy not only put at risk the individual freedom of people who are attracted to those of the same sex, but they also place religious freedom in jeopardy,” Lynas warned.

Post of the day!
So it is perfectly fine to encourage and enable pre pubescents to “transition/convert” to the opposite sex, but helping someone who has unwanted same sex desires should be banned? Welcome to bizarro world.
why would atheists be concerned about prayer?
—
That’s what I was thinking. They don’t think prayer works, so what do they care if someone is praying for something.
Public “education” is the left’s conversion therapy in disguise. But it’s not a very effective disguise.
So I guess that means that anyone legally considered to be a minor will be protected from activist school counselors, medical professionals, and “concerned” family and friends who try to influence, coax, shame, and further confuse said minors into embracing and claiming to be one of the alphabet mafia including transgender, right? Because it’s all about protecting people and not any sort of agenda, right?
Vile people.
Peach
Because inside the atheist is not saying “no God,” but is screaming “NO, GOD!” It is open rebellion.
I’m going to buck the stupid, irrational trend of the common criticism of some aversion therapy. Some of it is valid. Just as physical/sensory conditioning has gotten many innocent young kids INTO homosexuality, it can also be employed to help get them out of it.
We used to be a society that saw the value of the rod, sensory aversion conditioning, as a valuable tool in bringing up children. What has happened to that?
They really hate God.
Christians and churches are targets because they represent God to them. They are just taking it out on the most convenient thing they can.
Funny how when you go straight to homo, everyone celebrates and it’s their choice and all, but nobody is allowed in their minds, to go homo to straight.
I guess they figure it’s a one way ticket and buyers remorse is not allowed.
What hypocrites.
It would be interesting if we accused homosexuals of conversion therapy when they encourage people to out themselves.
It’s as if they are afraid prayer really works.
