Daily Mass Gospel Reflection- Small Craft Advisory
Word on Fire Ministry ^ | 4-17-2021 | Aux. Bishop of L.A.

Second Week of Easter

John 6:16–21

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus demonstrates his authority over nature by walking on the sea. Water is, throughout the Scriptures, a symbol of danger and chaos. At the very beginning of time, when all was a formless waste, the Spirit of the Lord hovered over the surface of the waters. This signals God’s lordship over all of the powers of darkness and disorder.

In the Old Testament, the Israelites are escaping from Egypt, and they confront the waters of the Red Sea. Through the prayer of Moses, they are able to walk through the midst of the waves.

Now in the New Testament, this same symbolism can be found. In all four of the Gospels, there is a version of this story of Jesus mastering the waves. The boat, with Peter and the other disciples, is evocative of the Church, the followers of Jesus. It moves through the waters, as the Church will move through time.

All types of storms—chaos, corruption, stupidity, danger, persecution—will inevitably arise. But Jesus comes walking on the sea. This is meant to affirm his divinity: just as the Spirit of God hovered over the waters at the beginning, so Jesus hovers over them now.

There are five auxiliary bishops of L.A.

Why not identify which one is the author?

and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

CCC:
In every circumstance, each one of us should hope, with the grace of God, to persevere ‘to the end’ and to obtain the joy of heaven, as God’s eternal reward for the good works accomplished with the grace of Christ. Do you, like Bobby Barron, believe Hell is empty, Murph? Do you think Jesus Christ was lying?

[41] Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. Matthew 25.

[21] Desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table, and no one did give him; moreover the dogs came, and licked his sores. [22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell. [23] And lifting up his eyes when he was in torments, he saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom: [24] And he cried, and said: Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, to cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. [25] And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things, but now he is comforted; and thou art tormented. Luke 16

[13] Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. [14] How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it! [15] Beware of false prophets (i.e. Bergoglio, Barron, Biden*), who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7

Most Catholics, if asked which angel said "non serviam" to God, would answer either Lucifer or Satan.

I'm afraid you might answer, the Angel of Light, in order to disguise the author.

So Jesus Christ was a "nutter", Murph?

Boy, has Bobby Barron poisoned you!

Why even focus on salvation, if you and Bobby Barron believe Hell could very well be empty?

Regarding your own tagline:

Do you know the difference between “might” and “shall”?

Do you and Bobby Barron know the difference between “omnibus” and “multis” in the Canon of the Holy Mass?

Apparently, not.

Ouch.. The Jesus card...You really want to throw down the Jesus card?

Well... Jesus ALSO... gave us 2 commandments....not just 1.....

If your focus is damnation of others, primarily, and you're eyes are naturally always looking down, and looking down on the other, you will fail to see clearly what is above you.... (with apology to C.S.)

Ouch.. The Jesus card...

What card were you expecting? A Barron card? A Bergoglio card?

I have no focus on the damnation of others. I do have faith in what Jesus Christ has warned us of, and that is the perils of Hell, where He said many souls do perish.

I'm sorry you and Bobby reject that. I'm focused on salvation and will point out false prophets like Barron who are misleading good souls.

P.S. Bobby had no problem with not opposing homo marriage through legalization. How is that saving souls, Murph?

I have no focus on the damnation of others.

I think your damning focus on a particular Aux. Bishop is unnaturally intense indeed.

I think your postings, day after day, carry a requisite negativity that if unchecked, will lead you down a path. Its a process where one sees everything as only bad- and as humans often do - "begin to wish that black was a little blacker." Simply because it becomes a satisfying perspective. Years of that potentially can "lead to seeing everything as bad, and not be able to stop doing it: we shall be fixed forever in a universe of pure hatred." Dont get me wrong, we ALL must go to the depths of our fallen nature, each to our own hellish struggle with the diabolical nature of our dysfunction- but that we must overcome it for good- and not stay in that forsaken place.

I do have faith in what Jesus Christ has warned us of, and that is the perils of Hell,

I do not doubt you have faith, no doubt whatsoever...
It is that your Faith has no Joy....

How can I "damn" focus? Do you not know what the word means and how it is used?

And why do you continue to refuse to identify your mystery "Aux. Bishop" by name? Are you that much ashamed of him?

I think your postings, day after day, carry a requisite negativity that if unchecked, will lead you down a path.

I'm not in the least concerned about what you think of me; especially one who hopes Hell is empty, despite Christ's statements otherwise.

It is that your Faith has no Joy....

Mind-reading is not allowed on this forum and for your information: only God is omniscient.

"Mind-reading is not allowed on this forum and for your information: only God is omniscient"

But isn't this exactly what you are doing with Bishop "Bobby"? Can you read his mind? Im just trying to show you the plank you're not seeing. There can be no Joy if we ask our hearts to share any joy with the constant negative thoughts all of us can harbor. Joy can only be found in the absence of hate - and apparently now the Circus.
I'm not a bad christian, though not a good one either... but we have to work out our salvation ... everyday - we dont get once and done ... we have to repent and that muest lead to good action.... (James)

I dont know what are in your thoughts your words or know what youve done or what you have failed to do... THATS NOT up to me ir anyone else....like you just said...no one has that power...
Ive been given two commandments...they work together- i cannot choose to separate them and they must consume me and be priority in my mind, heart and soul - nothing can compete with that

I must will the good of all men as i do so for that good in my own self... I cannot condemn...but zi can... HAVE THE REASONABLE hope THROUGH GOD'S Mercy AND BY the grace given by the Spirit.... that we nay be saved...thats the right focus... Christ didn't t give us any other option .

you may be surprised to learn I agree with the basis of most of your posts- but this man - this other - does deserve better....

What I Learned About Antichrist While Chatting with Eric Metaxas

In the course of doing his job as devil’s advocate, Eric asked some critical questions. Namely:

  1. Shouldn’t we as Christians, who hope for each man’s salvation, hope for Judas’ too?
  2. Wouldn’t it be perverse for us to be glad about the Church’s historic verdict, based on Jesus’ own words, that the man was damned?
  3. Isn’t the stance of Hans Urs von Balthasar — that Hell might in fact be empty of human souls — the right one for us?

    ..........

But I’ll sum it up here for those of you (like me) too impatient to click on videos. Here are my answers, boiled down:

    1. Judas redeemed? We should hope, work, and pray for the salvation of every living human being. It’s not our business to second-guess God’s judgment of dead people’s souls. Their fruit lay where it fell, and is God’s business not ours. But we shouldn’t hope that Jesus’ own solemn words, spoken without hyperbole to Judas’ face at the Last Supper, were empty, misleading, or false. (“The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” Matt. 26: 24) What would that imply for the rest of what Our Lord said? Wouldn’t we be free to reinterpret any “hard saying” of His to suit our lifestyle preferences?
    2. Gloat over judgment? We should hope that God’s justice, tempered by mercy, as He sees fit, always prevails. Our proper hope regarding Judas, the “son of perdition” (John 17:12) should be that we don’t imitate him instead of Jesus. As the ancient Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom prescribes each Christian pray on the way up to Holy Communion: “Of thy Mystic Supper, O Son of God, accept me today as a communicant; for I will not speak of thy Mystery to thine enemies, neither will I give thee a kiss as did Judas; but like the thief will I confess thee: Remember me, O Lord, in thy Kingdom. Not unto judgement nor unto condemnation be my partaking of thy Holy Mysteries, O Lord, but unto the healing of soul and body.”
    3. Hope for the damned? We shouldn’t hope that Jesus’ own words, in several Gospel passages, describing the torments of some souls damned in Hell were empty, misleading, or false. Likewise the divinely revealed predictions in the Book of Revelation, and St. Paul’s letters. Do we really want to make Scripture itself Silly Putty that picks up our wistful, post-modern squishiness about the seriousness of evil?
