Although I am an evangelical Christian, I do have respect for the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Catholics often use Missals for devotional prayer as well. If such books help the believer focus his prayers, they serve a useful purpose. The problem with such books, however, is that they can lead to “vain repetition” instead of sincere conversation with God.

I, also, am an evangelical Christian, and the “1912 Book of Common Prayer and Scottish Liturgy, The Episcopal Church in Scotland”, is full of beautiful Scriptural prayers. I see no difference in praying these prayers, and agreeing with prayers prayed by a pastor or other Christian, spoken out loud in a church service, or elsewhere. When my pastor prays, and we bow our heads and pray and agree as he’s praying, what’s the difference? Modern editions of the Book of Common Prayer, however, I would not recommend.
