Is Pope Francis Distancing Himself from CDF Same-Sex Blessing Clarification? Unlikely, Say Commentators

The document has prompted an outcry from those in the Church who wish to see a change in teaching, mostly in the German-speaking world.

VATICAN CITY —  Did Pope Francis actually give his assent to the responsum saying “No” to the blessing of same-sex unions? Or, in the wake of criticism of the Holy Father reaffirming Church teaching, are personalities close to him, as well as curial cardinals, bishops and others trying to cast doubt on his approval to further their agenda?

This question is being asked in Rome following a number of reports that inferred that the Vatican’s responsum (official Church response), published on March 15 in answer to a dubium (submitted questions related to doctrine) asking if the Church has the authority to bless same-sex unions, lacks papal backing.

Not all the sources are anonymous, wrote Riccardo Cascioli, editor of the Italian newspaper La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana. One, he noted, is Jesuit Father Pino Piva, reportedly close to Jesuit Father Antonio Spadaro, who is an aide to Pope Francis.

Writing on the Citta Nuova website, Father Piva claimed the Pope “does not approve” of the responsum but was “only informed of it.” Nor did he “order publication but only gave his consent.”

I couldn’t care less what the “Pope” says or thinks.

Unless... he would come to Christ by faith alone, have a public baptism, give a testimony of God’s Grace and Mercy to him, and set a living example for his denomination to follow.

So Bergoglio does approve of having same-sex relationships and “marriages” blessed?

I beleive he probably does, but rather than libel him, I’d rather hear it clearly from his mouth.

IF he does approve of them, then it confirms what I thought when I first heard that he condemned it...namely that I was skeptical and that he’d be backtracking before long. That seems to be the way that authority figures work in the 21st century.

The Church cannot bless something unholy. For their own spiritual and psychological health, those in these “unions” should be first encouraged to live chastely. If you really love your partner, why would you abuse him/her?

First time I’ve read that, in Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis wrote homosexual same-sex mirages can NOT be considered analogous to G-d’s plan for marriage and family.

I believe he probably does, but rather than libel him, I’d rather hear it clearly from his mouth.

Frankie has this annoying habit of staying quiet about a controversial topic while letting bishops who hold that opinion speak out about it, like women deacons or homo blessings.

Why does he do this? Because he is testing the waters to see how much of a blow-back his buds get from the media. If he sees none, then he quietly just lets the bishops do what they want.

Right now those bishops are figuring that if the play their cards right they will be able to slip in the female deacons and the homo blessings just like they did Communion in the hand.
