Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. (Psalm 130:7-8)

Israel is a microcosm of the entire human race. What is true of her, is true also of the human race, thus this Psalm is Her cry, and is a promise for her future. On a personal level it applies to all of us, but Israel is in view here.

Every experience in this Psalm is the experience of Israel. It is she who cries “Out of the depths”, time and again. Many of the Psalms testify to her heart cries for deliverance and restoration. Israel is in the depths, for she has many enemies, and has been exiled by God for her sins.

In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace. I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.( Psalm 120)

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say: Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me. The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows. The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.(Psalm 129:1-4)

Israel is soon to find out again, that God forgives the sins of those who turn to Him.

Finally it is Israel who waits for the long night of exile to pass and for the morning to break forth. (We too wait for the dawning of the new day, the age of Righteousness and the Millenium which will soon dawn.

But first the darkest part of the night… . The end of the world is pictured over and over again as a siege round about Jerusalem, and the enemies of God, uniting to annihilate the Jews once and for all time.

Jeremiah calls it ,”the time of Jacob’s trouble”,

Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it. For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.( Jeremiah 30:6-9)

People say, “It is always darkest before dawn…” and that is certainly true of the Eschaton, the End of time as we have known it. Just as the patriarch Jacob wrestled for his very life, in the dead of the night, finally realizing that He had been fighting God all along, and eventually just clinging to God, so shall Jacob’s offspring come to just such a crisis, shortly before the end of this Age.

The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. (Zechariah 12:1-3)

But God shall indeed redeem Israel in her darkest hour, and He shall show her plenteous redemption and Mercy. Something wonderful happens in Israel’s final conflict, God reveals himself to her, (Just as He has done for so many of us Gentiles), showing her the pierced hands and feet of her King Messiah, and causing her to re-evaluate a brother whom she had long ago rejected and cast aside,

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. ( Zechariah 12:10)

Just as the sons of Israel had failed to recognize their own brother, Joseph, when they were in Egypt, until he revealed himself to their utter shock and amazement, once again they will be confronted to another brother whom they had cast away… Jesus. But He will come to the in the darkness of the last terrible night, and Israel shall be redeemed.

In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.( Zechariah 13:1)

A fountain for cleansing shall be opened to her, that many of we gentiles are familiar with, for we sing of it, with grateful hearts and trembling lips,

There is a fountain filled with blood, Drawn from Immanuel’s veins, And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains: Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains; And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains.

Finally the national sin shall be forgiven and the Prodigal Son will be restored again, with sandals and ring! Finally Israel shall be re-instated as priest and teacher to the whole world! It shall be nothing less than resurrection from the dead for this sin sick World.

PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!

Amen! May Israel recognize their true Messiah (Yeshua) and be redeemed from their sins. Maranatha!
