Catholic Order [Jesuits] Pledges $100 Million to Atone for Slave Labor and Sales

In one of the largest efforts by an institution to atone for slavery, a prominent order of Catholic priests has vowed to raise $100 million to benefit the descendants of the enslaved people it once owned and to promote racial reconciliation initiatives across the United States.

The move by the leaders of the Jesuit conference of priests represents the largest effort by the Roman Catholic Church to make amends for the buying, selling and enslavement of Black people, church officials and historians said.

The pledge comes at a time when calls for reparations are ringing through Congress, college campuses, church basements and town halls, as leaders grapple with the painful legacies of segregation and the nation’s system of involuntary servitude.

“This is an opportunity for Jesuits to begin a very serious process of truth and reconciliation,” said the Rev. Timothy P. Kesicki, president of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States. “Our shameful history of Jesuit slaveholding in the United States has been taken off the dusty shelf, and it can never be put back.”

The only problem is that none of them has ever owned a slave. Once you start apologizing for the sins of your forebears, accepting their guilt as your own, there is no way to atone.

how about blanket ‘reparations’ for all the little boys they fornicated with or covered up for those that did. Far more real crime and far more current.

There is no former slave today and their are no former slave owners.

My family did not come to the US until after the civil war. So it is not my family’s problem, and me and mine should not have to pay any such stupid thing

That’s not an ‘order’ of priests - it’s a PAC.

The order owned slaves - Georgetown University was built with slave labor. When the Jesuits were low on cash they sold slaves.

Still waiting for any mention of slave trade provided for in FDR’s Yalta agreement.

The Jesuits have become the “Cultural Revolution Red Guard” troops of the Marxist wing of the Catholic Church.

Let them raise them money for all people who have been put out of work or killed by Cuomo, Fauci, CDC, WHO and Nancy Pelosi/Chuck Schumer, instead of playing “Marxist liberation and reparation games”.

It’s a good thing the Jesuits take a vow of poverty. The closest any of my ancestors ever came to slavery was when my Great Uncle died in a battle to FREE the slaves during the Civil War. If the Jesuits think that I, or any of the millions of people like me will donate money to them so they can give it away for ‘reparations’ they’re nuts.
