Well, it isn’t a cover story— that is an established norm in the Church. However, the fact that Pope Francis accepted Cardinal Sarah’s resignation when he isn’t required to, I’m sure there’s more there than meets the eye. I follow Cardinal Sarah’s career closely, and there has been no indication that he had any intention of retiring if he had a choice.

Really sad to see him gone, he was the best hope for the Vatican. Perhaps there are others like him, out there, some place.
