Actually, some of the nicest people I have ever met are Evangelicals.
I find it hard to believe that any person or group, imperial or not would have any power to dictate to the Antichrist...

Not dictate but RESTRAIN. As long as the Roman empire was functioning, the Antichrist couldn’t assume power. Very simple.
Something both of you should think about is that the Antichrist comes from ROME. How do I know this? Daniels vision in chapter 2
31Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
32This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
33His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.

Babylon is the head of gold
Medo/Persia is the chest and arms of silver
Greece is the belly and thighs
Rome is the legs of iron and feet/toes mixed with clay
The great stone cut without hands is Jesus Christ destroying the Image at the world’s end.
The Antichrist comes from ROME.
Same scenario with the Beasts and little horn. It comes out of ROME, the 4th beast.
The Antichrist power is a religio/political extension of Pagan ROME.
It will rise to be a great power after the fall of the pagan Roman Empire (after 476 AD)
It would uproot three of the ten kingdoms the Roman Empire collapsed into
It will be a geographically small nation (a little horn)
It will rule over many people, nations and tongues (it will be universal)
It will be headquartered in the city of seven hills, Rome
It will be a religio-political entity - a political city-state ruled by a priest-king
Its priest-king will make great and blasphemous claims
It will claim authority over all kings
It will claim its power to change the holy times and laws of God as its mark of authority
It will be an apostate Church that makes the nations drink her cup of apostate doctrine
It will be a “mother” Church, with apostate daughters coming from her
It will be a persecuting power, killing the faithful saints of Jesus Christ as heretics
It will hold power and authority for 1260 years following the fall of pagan Rome
It will suffer a deadly wound that will end 1260 years of dominance and persecution
It will be revived after the deadly wound, and all the world would wonder at its revival
The bible says the Antichrist/little horn/man of sin, fits these criteria. There is only one that fits them all...The Catholic church.

No matter how you interpret anything else in the bible, such as sin, commandment keeping, or whatever, the bible specifically gives criteria of who the Antichrist is. It is a list that can ONLY point to the Catholic church. According to Daniel and John, the Antichrist comes out of the 4th beast, WHICH IS ROME. You REFUSE to acknowledge the Catholic church through history and especially their attempts at diverting attention at the reformer’s claims that they are the Antichrist power. And, you REFUSE to acknowledge ALL of the Protestant reformers who CLEARLY identified the Antichrist power as the Catholic church. Why won’t you just come out and say it? What are you afraid of? Many of the early non Catholic churches (during the Dark Ages) were destroyed/murdered because they refused to bow down to the power of the Catholic religion, or bow down to their popes or accept Jesus' mother as the mother of God...
The KJB translators called the Catholic pope the Antichrist...
There seems to be little doubt (except among Catholics) that the Catholic religion along with the National Council of Churches, the World Council of Churches and the muzlim hoard will become the One World Religion, with the pope at its head...There is no doubt in my mind and a few others that the pope will become (IS) the false prophet...Many Catholics are taking that position as well...
