Christian music artist Carman Licciardello, known to fans as Carman, has died.
An update on his Facebook page Tuesday evening says he passed away at a Las Vegas, Nevada hospital after fighting a series of complications resulting from surgery to repair a hiatal hernia.
Carman, a GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame member, had turned 65 while in the hospital on Jan. 19.

His pain is gone, and his troubles are over.
This man was such a class act for Christ! He will be missed!
A hiatal hernia is a type of hernia in which abdominal organs slip through the diaphragm into the middle compartment of the chest. This may result in gastroesophageal reflux disease or laryngopharyngeal reflux with symptoms such as a taste of acid in the back of the mouth or heartbur.
Man that is brutal
Actually it is likely not the hiatal hernia that got him. I would bet my bottom dollar that he had a gastric leak postoperatively -> this is the often fatal complication. But you are correct, this complication is brutal.
RIP.

Listened to his music a lot as a teen. He is only a few years older than me, did not remember that.
The Champion was the best! Carmen gets to see Him in person now. Sweet!
I got a cassette
Right Here!
Good Stuff.
Well done,
Good and Faithful servant.
RIP, Carman. Good and faithful servant.
Saw him in concert years ago, back in the eighties.
He was good and he is hearing what we all long to hear: “well done, good and faithful servant, well done!”
Cannot it not also cause compression of the heart or lungs?
I still have the LP.
I guess when God decides it’s time, it’s time.
He gets to choose the time and manner of our death.
That’s why I don’t worry about COVID. I already survived a MRSA infection that nearly killed me. I’m invincible until God decides.
I vaguely remember that name. Glad he is now resting in peace with his Savior.
Loved Carmen! Saw an EPIC concert years ago. He never charged for concerts that I remember. Always trusted that if he was called by God, God would provide the means to do His work. Old school!
My Dad died of complications from having a hiatal hernia. Long story, but he could not be operated on safely, and eventually a perforated ulcer developed, that caused aspiration, pneumonia, and eventual death. It is a really, really rough way to go.
Now my Mom has the same type hernia, but not so severely, and therapy may (may) be able to help. At 90 y/o and fragile, an operation would be very risky for her, too. It’d help if we could just get her to lay off foods that make her reflux problems worse, but rehab facilities and such apparently can’t or won’t give patients even doctor ordered diet-specific menus, and she relapses into bad habits if not reminded at every meal. WTF.
This sort of thing (hiatal hernia) is very common in older folks who become very sedentary and do not stay upright enough. Humans were not built to be horizontal most of the time...
